Pondering a bit about GPU and resolution scaling

It might be a bit too soon considering the game is not out yet, but I wanted to talk about this anyway in case someone has some ideas.

If the beta was any reference, the hated forced TAA filter from BFV is back.

According to what someone seems to have said about countering the blurring that this filter causes, they claimed that one would need to set their resolution scaling to +30% in order to reclaim the sharpness and detail lost from the TAA.

So I was wondering what type of GPU would be needed to handle something like this game at 1080p but with 130% resolution scale?

  • 1080p @ 133% resolution scaling equals 1440p resolution (1080p X 1.33 = 1440p). So if you want to run BF2042 at 1440p with 120fps then you'll probably want an RTX 3070 I'm guessing. I'd wait for benchmarks to be sure though.

The console command 'Render.DrawScreenInfo true' will do the math automatically and display the scaled resolution.

  • @UP_HawxxeyeWhat do you have now? Remember CPU plays a big part in BF games.

Hopefully we’ll be able to make a config file.

Sometimes Nvidia releases an optimization article for bigger games. You could follow that to get the best visuals and performance.

@RaginSamI got a new PC recently with a ryzen 5800X and 2x8 GB of 3600Mhz ram.
But my GPU is still the old 1050ti (which will run the game fine on minimal settings)
So since we have maaany months until the GPUs become reasonable, I wanted to start to plan ahead.

I honestly do not plan to run BF2042 at above 60fps on a a 133@ scale since my monitor is limited at 60hz anyway. I also do not think I will go for high settings considering that in past titles most of them just made it harder to see enemies. In BFV I set everything to low even if it was not affecting performance.

So right now I am pondering on if it will be a 3060 quality card or a 3070 quality card (or AMD and Intel equivalents) that will be the best investment once they are obtainable for a reasonable price.

  • @UP_Hawxxeye I would go with a 3070 if you can. Maybe an MSI if you can find. Amazon has some stock and StockX has some too. If you have the money, Amazon does have a lot of stock of the MSI 3070 TI.

I am with you, 60 FPS is just fine for me at 1080p. I tried a 4k monitor with my 11900k 5.3 and 3070 ti. While I got good frames in most games, I prefer a rock solid 60 in ALL situations. Not just running and gunning but 128 players, stuff blowing up everywhere, just sheer madness. I will happily trade some visual quality for the stable 60 FPS.
