I'm a bit worried that Portal might kill the support for the game from Dice.
I mean. I love the idea of portal and will probably spend 95% of my play time there.
But with a game that is supposed to be financed with a sort of BattlePass post launch with specialist skins and cosmetics for the 2042 content.
How many will be buying the Battlepasses if it turns out that Portal will become the main mode for many people?
What will happend with the support for the game when they wont make enough money on the battlepasses?
- TrasteTh4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Blackidus I think the majority of the focus on Portal is from the existing BF player base, and the other games modes will pull in the CoD/Fortnight/Apex kids that are already conditioned for microtransactions.

@kregoraHere in Sweden, they are not so liberal, but (un)fortunately, I live right across from Denmark, where they had no issues selling hard liquor to 13 year olds.It is not legal to sell alcohol to 13-year-olds in Denmark.
Except if they are thirsty Swedes, showing up with a note from their mothers and say their snaps-purchase is to disinfect some serious flesh wounds, and what have you? 😋
We Danes are very empathetical people, so why not? Those poor Swedes are anyway going straight from our shop and back to the boat there 10am in the morning, to return happy back to their Swedish motherland, to start their "disinfection-job" asap.
Tough as well that the Swedish state is still having an exclusive state-monopoly on alcohol sales only from their shops in the country and running their gulag-style controls on who buys alcohol, how much and how frequent... 😳
- Fringerunner4 years agoSeasoned Ace@TrasteTh Oh, Sweden is quite, *quite* liberal seen on a world-wide basis.
- TrasteTh4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Fringerunner Swedish government? In regards to alcohol? I doubt that honestly, unless compared to countries where alcohol is completely banned.

I think Portal is the future of BF. I think the Specialists and the lukewarm work on the "core" game is evidence of this. I think we will see a pivot towards Portal as a live service that will include paid content updates for new maps, factions, vehicles, weapons, Specialists, etc. It makes sense for EA and it will make sense for old and new BF fans too. I think BF fans are very nuanced and diverse (in regards to playstyles) more so than other franchises like COD. BF fans want a mix of playstyles in a kind of sandbox. I would happily pay a subscription or pay for dlc if that is the case. I can't wait to see what content from previous titles like BF2, BF Vietnam, BF 2142, BF 4 and and BF1 make it to Portal.

I have some - very very foggy - memories of rambling in the alleys of Helsingør until early morning, having a breakfast "danish" at some early bakery and then getting on the boat home.
I think drunk Swedish teens were considered a plague in Helsingør back then.
It was a lot cheaper with that stuff in Denmark back then, and there were a constant stream of swedish school classes partying like their lives depended on it.
- BtheReaper494 years agoSeasoned Veteran@Blackidus Yup...I've posted a response to another post similar to this. If players don't buy enough battlepasses to keep the money flowing post launch then I don't expect them to keep feeding portal with additional maps, etc. via the live service.
- Fringerunner4 years agoSeasoned Ace@TrasteTh I was going to write up something regarding the law vs when people actually start drinking and what the police tend to do about it, but seeing some of your other posts along with knowing where Cyberdyme is from, i don't think we need to go down that road.
I'll simply say i'm very happy Svinesund is where it is, or i'd have to pay local prices for general (and in my younger years other things), and after more than 10 years of having to get it mailed to the states, now that the border is open again I'm quite happy to make the hour trip or so vs paying 90ish NoK for a can.
And then there's that wonderful ferry to København that counts as international waters for a few hours! (speaking of people being sick of seeing drunk tourists) - TTZ_Dipsy4 years agoHero+
I'll try my best to play all modes but at the end of the day it all comes down to survival of the fittest.

Portal kind of got my "excitement" up again. At least a little bit. But still upset, because we still got the BF2042 core in portal.
I don't want that crappy HUD and i won't accept the lack of a scoreboard. But i do hope, that everyone will be playing in BF Portal, so the base game and the lame hazard zone mode will die.

😀👍
@TickTack121 I wouldn't really worry much about if we have BF2042 core (the super hero specialists?) in the Portal or not. It doesn't really matter. Just play on the servers you like there.
Like in the past with BF4 we had these many different modes:
In the beginning most of these were active. But some were clearly much more popular than others. And slowly but surely, several of them started dying out, as there were simply not that many players that still cared to engage in playing them.
We can expect to see exactly the same happen here in the Portal. That also includes which soldier factions that will be active in the portal and which new ones may be added to it. (BF2042, BF3, BFBC2, BF1942...?) And some may fade out. And its all fine.

If it would be possible, to use the HUD and "core" (movement system, animations, etc) of the other games, i would instantly shut my move 🙂
Edit: Forgot about the scoreboard. Because what we have now is a joke. So that is exactly why i am asking for the old "overlays". Then i wouldn't have to deal with some lame ideas of bad game designers.
- kregora4 years agoSeasoned Ace@CyberDyme But if you are honest, this is the list of modes, after all DLC were published. If Google is right, BF4 started with Conquest, Rush, Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination, Defuse and Obliteration.
So in a way BF2042 will start with five modes, Conquest, Breakthrough, Rush, Team Deathmatch and Hazard Zone. In a way Hazard zone is a 32 squad mode, that mixes Defuse with Obliteration with a twist.
