I like BF2042 and I'm also very happy to see what's coming with the Portal mode. My main concern is that Portal will be main place where all players be, I'm afraid that at one moment when I want to play BF2042 I won't find games there as everyone will be on Portal and that's actually sad. I really hope that I'm wrong and players will give their time and attention to standard Battlefield 2042 as well as Portal mode.
We finally getting modern combat Battlefield after so many years and honestly I don't want to see BF2042(I mean standard modes, not Portal) dead because everyone plays Portal.

@IIPrest0nII I feel sad too but it is what it is. The standard mode is already hated by a lot. Unless they make proper changes, I doubt anyone will be playing them in the long run.
- Fringerunner4 years agoSeasoned Ace@TheFireOfTitan Is it though? Again, I'm absolutely in the "not a fan of the specialists in BF" camp, but i certainly don't hate it (hard to hate something i haven't really played) and i'll absolutely be giving core a good run before i fully make my mind up.
The nice thing now though (imo) is that *if* it does turn out i don't like the specialist system much, not only can i fall back to a portal server with a title i absolutely loved (BF3) but i can also mix and match elements from both core and the other games in to maybe even make a BF3 "remix" with some gadgets and guns from other games to make it even more interesting, or just see what combos other people have come up with.
Core will fail or succeed entirely on it's own merit, not because HZ or portal is also in the mix, and i highly doubt preconceptions will make much of a difference after launch.
It certainly won't fail solely because some of us didn't like the specialists in tests/beta, it'll be entirely based on if it manages to feel like it's own game and has a semblance of balance in the BF franchise context.
If it just feels like a washed out jumble of other games then that's on the content, not preconceptions.
The only major issue i see core having vs portal is that portal can mix up it's content to a huge degree without Dice needing to do any work (as cyberdyme mentioned above) whereas core will require Dice/whatever studio does content post launch to put in a bit of effort.
And adding content to portal is more or less porting existing assets and maybe polishing them up a bit, which i would think would make it a simpler mode to support if it's popular.
(and coming up with new specialists that people care about will get harder and harder the more time passes imo)- 4 years ago@Fringerunner I don't hate the specialists. Just certain small things about the way they are. That's my issue. Like certain abilities, balance issues, skin issues. Ammo, medic, etc, markers on top of them.
Small things.
I will play all of the modes but Portal will be my favourite, I already know.
And that is true, people will judge main mode on its merit.- Fringerunner4 years agoSeasoned Ace@TheFireOfTitan No worries, my post wasn't written to dismiss your views, just a general observation/counterpoint.
I've got my own concerns about core, not begrudging anyone else theirs (or anyone for liking what they've seen for that matter).
Everyone's got their own subjective take, hopefully between core or portal, now that we've got some actual information on the latter, those looking for some kind of BF experience should be able to find something they can enjoy.
Still fairly certain HZ isn't aimed at old battlefield players, but we'll see 🙂
