I understand all of that, and I'm not happy about the restrictions, either.
From what I have read of the TOS, and the graphics that were posted here as 'evidence,' I feel that they have sufficiently covered their bases, legally, as far as the language goes. I'm no lawyer, and I'm not giving any kind of legal advice, but I have a good bit of experience with writing contracts and dealing with copyright issues.
Let's break it down:
Quote: "All experience you earned in Battlefield™ 2042 is universal and shared across all its modes, which means you’ll be leveling up and unlocking new weapons, gadgets, and cosmetics no matter which mode you’re playing."
The first part is about "all experience you earned." "Earned" (worked to legitimately unlock) is the key word, here. You earned it (past tense). It is now in your account. That earned XP is now "universal and shared across all its modes."
So far, nothing about that part is false; 1) Everything you have earned has transfered, and 2) you do have the ability to level-up and unlock "new weapons, gadgets, and cosmetics no matter which mode you’re playing." Still true.
Here's the nasty part, though:
In Portal, for example, you have not "earned" certain unlocks, or regular amounts of XP, compared to other modes. The XP you actually have earned, though, has indeed transfered, so no issues there. The problem is that EA put restrictions on the rates and types of unlocks that you will be allowed to earn in certain modes. What you still earn, after all of the restrictions, does indeed transfer, so you aren't being robbed of anything you have been able to earn (nothing you have been able to unlock has been taken back from you).
What's actually happening is this: you are basically being throttled and restricted; if you aren't allowed to earn (unlock) something, in the first place, there is nothing to transfer. Big difference. It's all in the wording, and how one action follows another.
The statement did not say that you could level-up as fast, or unlock every single item, across all modes; it said that what you earn transfers. They didn't say anything about possibly making it more difficult--or impossible--to earn certain things in certain modes, and that is the real issue.
I know that doesn't make the situation any better--and I hate all of the caps and restrictions, too--but that's the way the language reads, in my opinion, and I have to be honest about that. Because of the caps, and several other issues with the game, I have chosen not to play it.
key word - "Universal" - (again I will post it) - including or covering all or a whole collectively or distributively WITHOUT LIMIT OR EXCEPTION (this last part is important)
Not "oh you can earn up to this in this mode and unrestricted in that mode" - not once ever was this said prior to release
Also the only reason restrictions are in place is because of xp farms on Portal. Not because the restrictions is how it was intended to be. All was fine for a day n half until they realized people were exploiting farms.
The game released as intended with no restrictions, only after the xp farms did they add the restrictions, and not because it was supposed to be this way. This is the difference.
- 4 years ago@Spidder81 I fully understand what "universal" means, and I also understand how contracts work. The problem is that you are overlooking--or disregarding--the language that precedes that one word. Again, I will post about it.
The (partial) quote is this: "All experience you earned in Battlefield™ 2042 is universal and shared across all its modes...." The last part of the full quote is them simply explaining what they meant by that.
The most important phrase in the entire quote is "[a]ll experience you earned," so that begs the question: What specifically did you "earn" (unlock through gameplay) in the game that did not transfer across all platforms? The transfer of earned in-game assets (XP and items) is literally the only thing that the above quote addresses, so don't read something into it that isn't there.
For issues of how they reserve the right to manage their games as they see fit (as they should be fully allowed to do), it is all covered in the full TOS--to which you agreed. - Spidder814 years agoSeasoned Ace
@ChugKendall
"All experience you earned in BF2042 is universal and shared across all its modes, which means you'll be leveling up and unlocking new weapons, gadgets and cosmetics no matter which mode you're playing"
Notice how it says "no matter which mode you're playing" Universal, (i.e. no limits/exceptions) etc. Which means there should be no limits in any mode
Where does it say about anything being restricted in different modes? You misunderstand what the above quote means.
Also as I said, game released with no restrictions and that is how it was intended. Restrictions came into place ONLY because of xp portal farms. - 4 years ago
@Spidder81I didn't misunderstand a single thing, my friend. You completely disregarded the very first thing I mentioned in the last post about preceding, descriptive language--language that sets the tone and conditions for what comes after it.
This is how legal contracts work, and I am attempting to show you how language affects the entire scope of an agreement. If you can't get past this one very basic point, we might as well stop discussing it now, and you can (erroneously) believe whatever you want.
The quote doesn't say anything about XP being restricted in different modes, because that is not what the quote is talking about. Thank you for affirming exactly what I was trying to tell you: The quote has nothing to do with restrictions; it is only saying that they will transfer all assets that you have unlocked ("earned") to other platforms. If you haven't unlocked ("earned") items or XP--whether through lack of playtime, inadequate skill level, or due to restrictions imposed within the game--there is nothing to transfer.
If you want to discuss how we both seem to think that progression and XP caps are infuriating and causing many players to not want to play the game (myself included), we can agree on that all day long, but transfer of earned assets (addressed in the quote) has nothing to do with whether or not you will be allowed to earn those assets in the first place (not addressed in the quote).
As for after-release restrictions, the entire TOS was one big set of restrictions and guidelines that determine how the game can and will be managed, going forward--and you agreed to it.
That's all I care to say on the matter. Be well. - 4 years ago
Anymore update about this?
- 4 years ago@sagagt505 I wish. As it stands, I have no desire to play it, because I feel like it's a wasted effort to spend so much time for little reward.
@ChugKendallRight but what about the fact that we agreed on day 1 to have access to *and the ability to earn tier one cosmetics* we got what we wanted, but then that was changed to remove the aspect of which people were playing for, People who were disabled still bought the game on the account that they could still progress throughout the game in SOLO & CO-OP modes, They agreed to this on day 1 on concept that they could still progress and grind towards all available unlockables, But after day 1 they then changed this for no valid reason and still have yet to give an official statement regarding the progression
Surely that a company who "Puts the community first" would also put out a statement instead of ignoring its community
- Spidder814 years agoSeasoned Ace@Johnathan123YT True, I have seen posts in other forums too about people who have stuff like mobility issues or other reasons, and bought this game under the premise that full progression and xp would be in solo/coop, and was the only reason they bought it. As they wouldn't be able play in the normal pvp mode.
Still mindblowing how they haven't switched on Portal progression yet.
I'm not playing anything until they do, it'd be a waste of time...
- 4 years ago@Tman26242 Mindblowing to me that every dev i tweet at, just ignores the question, even the EAHelp account wont awnser me
- ImmortalJoker664 years agoSeasoned Scout
Those damn clowns in Portal literally ruined the whole game with their stupid as hell XP farming servers after reading the response from EAHelp. Thanks a lot you morons for ruining the Solo/Co-op play
- DominickB34 years agoSeasoned Ace@ImmortalJoker66 Honestly it kinda makes me wish I had done the xp and kill farming in portal initially if they were going to nerf solo/coop so much. I just want to be able to get ribbons, achievements, cards, and mastery tiers. That's it. I could live with halved xp.
- ImmortalJoker664 years agoSeasoned Scout@DominickB3 sad thing is I don't think DICE cares anymore. Just nerf/cap the Solo experience to force people into their lousy matchmaking just to get the unlocks and mastery. They just can't be honest about anything anymore and just make up excuses to not explain what they are going to do about it.
- Spidder814 years agoSeasoned Ace
@ImmortalJoker66they have also ruined custom portal for a lot of players and whole discord communities (that wanted build a custom server for their community) too because not a lot want to play due to restrictions. The way this is carrying on Portal won't last long. Just take off all restrictions in portal and solo/coop like its supposed to be. Let people level up how they want to who cares. Just have someone monitor custom portal and delete xp farms. It's really that simple.
- 4 years ago@DominickB3 Honestly im with you, If i knew this was going to be such a cancerous exchange between this community and the devs i woulda abused tf outta it, Because this is just ridiculous, Yeah its scummy asf, But its even more scummy ignoring a large group of peoples demands and just outright having their experience restricted
- DominickB34 years agoSeasoned Ace@Johnathan123YT I get that there are other issues present in the game right now, but I really don't think it's too much to ask for to want a simple tweet, blog, anything really stating "Hey solo/coop players we haven't forgotten about you. Sorry we had to change xp growth and progression in your mode due to people exploiting portal." Then telling us whether these changes are permanent to give the balance they see fit for their game, or if it's just temporary and we will get full progress again in the future.
My guess is we haven't heard anything because the shrinking player base is hurting matchmaking and by restricting what you can do solo/coop they can artificially boost the numbers of players going into PvP servers to finish their progression and get unlocks. And if they tell us straight up "This is what the progression will be moving forward." They know that will also hurt the number of players due to anyone playing solo/coop just giving up. - 4 years ago@Johnathan123YT See tbh at this point i dont even think the devs give a * about this whatsoever, I think the only time they'll actually give a * is when some youtuber like jackfrags or levelcap or someone were to make a video on it, Cause clearly they dont actually listen to the community, only listen to the "important figures"
- 4 years ago@DominickB3 Yeah i get that too, dont get me wrong theres many bigger and important issues with the game right now, but im legit seeing devs respond to minor issues which don't affect the gameplay whatsoever
The way i see it for solo & co-op is all we want is progression, we dont care about the xp really, so im fine with the XP Gain being massively reduced in order to make MP more productive in a sense, obviously Solo & CO-OP would still allow XP gain but averaging between 5-15k compared to like 30-70k on multiplayer - Spidder814 years agoSeasoned Ace
@DominickB3sad thing is they are losing more players by having the restrictions on in portal and solo/coop because people are leaving and/or refusing to play the game because of it.
- DominickB34 years agoSeasoned Ace@Spidder81 It's honestly sad to see. The lack of communication about their vision for progression in these modes moving forward has really crushed a lot of the community for this game. Most friends I've talked to can handle the bugs and other issues, but the lack of progression and capped tiers outside of AoW PvP has discouraged them.
It's really the that lack of communication though. So much for community interaction and being open about the game. - 4 years ago

I need to refund the hype and waiting time. Is it possible to do so?
I’m bothered by the fact that I spent money on this game because I read and saw an image that was posted that we could progress in any mode we wanted. I then did further research and I read, you can unlock everything in any mode including the trophies/achievements.
Had I known we weren’t gonna be able to get tier 1 progression in solo I would have passed on the game and saved $100
To be honest at this point I’d be happy if they allowed us to get ribbons and tier 1 and disable exp in solo/co op or make it 2 exp per kil.
but to be honest, I’m not sure if it’s just me but even the ai is pretty tough in solo/ co op, they can be pretty aggressive. Maybe I just suck really badly haha 😞
image I saw is down below
- Spidder814 years agoSeasoned Ace@AnthonyAmato666 same I thought solo/coop is tough when played properly. Those ai have shot me out of a helicopter before. Thing is it is actually taking a while to get to tier 12 just on the specialists. Why they capped xp and and put restriction on solo/coop is beyond me. BT and Conquest are the small versions and it's not even 128 a side. I don't even reach a 100 kills most matches. I don't farm or cheese. Just want to play it properly and earn full progressions
They should turn on solo/coop full xp and progression on again while they still sort out Portal. Its getting ridiculous now - DominickB34 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Spidder81Yeah I played a game of BT that took an hour earlier today. Was able to finish the kills needed with one of my guns, but an hour of game time to get like 15K experience is terrible. Not to mention the AI are useless on your team when playing solo so you have to do everything yourself basically.
I could play as Casper in PvP and get more experience just laying in a bush spotting enemies with the drone in a 30 minutes game. - 4 years ago
I agree with you, I am fine if the greatly reduce XP vs AI. On some days, I just want to shoot stuff with friends and have some progress on unlocks.
