Re: 5 man squads

Yep, 4 man squads confirmed. A couple reasons for them choosing 4 man squads come to mind. There's four classes so each member of the squad can be a different class. Assault, support, engineer, and sniper.

The second reason I can think of is that 4 man squads divides evenly into 128 players. I don't know if these are the reasons DICE chose to go with 4 man squads, but it's my best guess as to why.

@OskooI_007 I always felt there should be some sort of squad link up. So if you got 2 squads that all want to be on the same coms and work together they can form a platoon.

It would add a lot to the 64/64 battles.

@GRiPSViGiL something like this I think would be a cool option for players trying to stick together w their friends and prevent other squads from having less then 4.

The first 3 man locked squad throws the "4 goes into 128" argument out the window.

  • Yeah, this can't really be about all squads being the same size.  If that's what is driving this, then no more locked squads then?

@OskooI_007 I'd prefer to have at least 6 man squads like in BF2 which would be 21 even squads and 2 commanders - but honestly in a 128 player game 8 man squads would  divide into 16 even squads if they foolishly don't add commanders back in such a large game mode.

With the prohibition against spawning under fire (not to mention how glitch the under fire sensor has been over the past couple of games) 4 man squads ensure that squads are never together because 1-2 will be dead and the rest probably in contact necessitating you to respawn at a flag.

  • @ragnarok013 give the man a raise and an extra day off... finally speaking some sense...
    64man-team equals to 16 squads:
    1: Alpha
    2: Bravo
    3. Charlie
    4. Delta
    5. Echo
    6: Foxtrott
    7: Golf
    8: Hotel
    9: India
    10: Juliet
    11: Kilo
    12: Lima
    13: Mike
    14: November
    15: Oscar
    16:Papa

Then you have 5-6 locked squads with 2-3 guys in each... So you get another 4-5 squads:

    16:Quebec
    17: Romeo
    18: Sierra
    19: Tango
    20: Uniform

I have never never ever seen any squad name beyond Juliet in BF4

4 to a squad is such a bad idea. 8 in a squad makes so much sense. Literally, we’re going from 64 players (4 man) to 128 players, so why shouldn’t the squad sizes be 8? It’s an even divide of 128.

My concern is that it’s the specialists that are driving this. The only real thing holding back squad sizes is if they’re limiting specialists to 1 per squad. And since there are only 10 specialists, an 8 man squad would make it harder to be “your specialist.” I don’t agree with this, but I can’t think of a logical reason why they would still keep 4 man squads, it’s just terrible.

  • @DingoKillrI know that. I meant, are they limiting how many specialists per squad? If you and I are in a squad and I’m Casper, do you get to be Casper as well? That’s what I mean. Like, are they concerned that you’ll just quit the game, or get frustrated by squads, because you can’t be Casper? Hence, 4 man squads and less likelihood someone would have “your guy/gal”

  • I'd personally prefer a higher squad count option, but 4 is fine. I'll be in a PSN party chat when rollin

@Boba_Brett711I don't see that type of restriction being put in place. DICE has not restricted class before why start now.

DICE appears to have give 1 specialist Sundance the wingsuit. Having only 1 Sundance would leave the rest of the squad behind. With little info we have, may be DICE will allow us to have a squad of Sundance with different gadgets.

@GRiPSViGiL Discord works well for that. Also if you know the squad members personally, there's whatsapp groupcall

@psylentrage76 Sure but why need to use 3rd party coms? Then you got the issue of setting objectives for those outside your squad. If you could create platoons you can use the in game comorose more effectively.

@GRiPSViGiL then it doesn't matter which Battlefield you play, or for that matter, which game. Just an opinion. Almost no game's in-game comms are as good as either those options, added that you can video call at the same time, on a different device? Less chance of trolls and hackers that can possibly listen in? I just believe in-game comms should stay right where they are. It also gives scope to the devs to rather work on other more important aspects of the game, i.e. hackers, cheaters, more and better content, ETC. without having to worry about yet another layer of security, that can be broken down. A game's first priority in my opinion ISN'T the comms. So far down the list, TBH, I really don't care. Back when we we're playing older titles with no-comms, we simply ran a local VOIP client-server, or used, dare I say it, SKYPE

As a console player now days. We just create our own chat outside the game and use that. They only challenge you can have is ending up on different teams (although that can be even more fun).

  • @DingoKillr I do hope you’re right.

I guess I’m just assuming it’s locked to one per because of the squad sizes, because I can’t really think of another good reason why 8-man squads wouldn’t be the new standard.
