Re: Another reason Specialists dont belong here...

No, classes don’t encourage teamplay. If a player doesn’t want to participate in teamplay a class will not change that. And many players played the class only for the weapon they preferred instead of the teamplay aspect.

You can still read it in the game chat when players asking, if somebody can get rid of an annoying Helicopter instead of trying it by them self. And these are not isolated cases.

To many players expecting that somebody else is doing it instead of switching their own gear. (Because then they need to get out of their comfort zone)

BF2042 and the specialist system give you the freedom of choice of your equipment and is more open for teamplay ever but to many players are here for a good K/D and not to PTFO.

I like the Specialist system and that they got rid of restriction of a classes is a good thing.

  • For example there was an annoying stealth helicopter bugging me on the oil platforms on the Breakaway that kept in stealth mode so no one could target him.  So I switched to Rao and hacked him which took him out of stealth mode and took him out with 2 AA rockets.  I made it my mission to pursue him over most of the map.  Now tell me you could do that with regular classes?

@CantGetRightto be honest I highly doubt stealth helis would have been a thing without the specialists, because it would have made it way more OP than it already is, and totally mess up the balance

@CantGetRight depends if DICE gave the engineer a hacking gadget.....
in BF4 for exampe you could just deploy an automated AA trap to annoy it without lookign through your stinger 24/7....
but hey what do i know

Some other reasons why they don't belong:

    1. Made for bad/new players - gives them a crutch, same goes for ez mode weapons and vehicles

    2. Impossible to balance team based game with unique individual capabilities, this is where we are now

    3. Targeted younger players (goofy design - see OG Angel/Mackay) which is the wrong target audience for BF (mature)
    4. Made to be politically correct. Was any gender/race/ethnicity not represented yet? Don't worry THEY have more coming. Who cares? Wasted dev time on this instead of working on netcode.

    5. Completely breaks game narrative and immersion (worst concept ever, no-Pats really?) - This should've been a follow-up to BF4 storylines.

    * Note - this post is directly in response to the OP's post and is on topic and perfectly written *

@CountSero in general i agree with the point the players choose to play as a team not the classes, yet in 2042 you can run Falk/Angel for example and essentially ignore all 31/63 players in your team entirely since you can resupply and heal yourself at your own leisure. Angel is in essence a one man army, using the airdrop to use whatever he needs for any given situation....
with classes you are eventually forced to seek out teamates, now ofc there is no garantee that whoever medic/support is near you will be of any use to you whatsoever... yet there was never a loadout in any BF game prior to 2042 where one class could simply do it all. now we have Angel and i garantee it will only get worse if DICE is left to do as they please

Angel functions as support. His resupply is not just for him. Other battlefield you could “pick up” classes. i.e. pick up downed medic load out and revive medic or swap class on death to one more appropriate. There have always been medics that don’t revive and support that doesn’t give ammo. It is ultimately player freedom of choice and not the specialist creating the problem.

@AdamonicI think we can all agree that this game was not designed for 'veteran' players, at all. Portal was the 'love letter' to us (assuming you don't play with 2042 characters/vehicles/guns).
The next Battlefield will determine whether the game goes back to its roots, or continues as a hero shooter hybrid for casual players.

@Lancelot_du_Lac If it was for casual players then the BP would have been easier, and T1 (if not broken) would also be easy. I do think they planned it to be a hero shooter, I’m not convinced they wanted it to be causal. I think they wanted immersion and a free floating wallet for all the cool purple skins. It’s like they had no idea what the BF players actually wanted. I don’t mind the specialists, frankly they could have made that work for both factions and within classes, would have been a step forward. Instead, we got what we got.

@ATFGunr Perhaps 'casual' is the wrong word - I was thinking along the lines of non-team/squad players, or lone wolf players. For example, I haven't played in a regular squad since BF2.

@Lancelot_du_LacThat makes sense, I wasn’t calling you out or anything of course. I agree with you completely that it’s not team orientated at all, and does promote lone wolfism. This is the first BF game where I haven’t had a ton of clan mates to play with. 1 dropped off from 4, V basically tanked after 1, and with the inability to join servers and squad up with buddies, there are only 3 out of the old ATF clan playing 2042. I think we have more players still in 1942 than we do with 2042. BF was always great for playing with friends. Not anymore. Hear me Dice?? The spirit of BattleField is dead.

    @ATFGunr It's a sign of the times...

I still leave on in-game VOIP in the hope of communicating with another player. No luck so far...

@Lancelot_du_Lac Me too, think I’ve found 2? I leave it on though. Hopefully a server browser happens as rumoured and the ability to use VoIP might be more attractive if you can actually keep a squad together for more than a round.

You’d have had to do it with a team mate. Not saying that that would have happened. But that’s what class system was setup to require. Team play.

Now, it’s essentially a “one man band” anyone can do it in the own.

Persoanlly, a class based alternative would have been to have added a specialist class, that had access to the hacking and flight suit(if you had to have the stupid thing)

to be honest, as long as the portal scripting had the ability for portal admins to configure specialists/classes and load outs as they please. I think these things would have come about naturally based on what people wanted to play.
