Hello,

I am gonna play bf 2042 on the xbox serie x. My friend is still playing on his xbox one. Are we gonna be able to play together in the same server/squad?

    Ok. Thx. And when he buys an xbox serie x can i upgrade my bf to an serie x version or do i have to buy a new 1

    @b0ssieb0ss_4wv1 You'd just need to move over to the Series X version. I'm planning to have both versions installed on mine so I can hop back and forth, depending on which of my friends are playing.

    Sry i am a bit lost now. So when i want to play with my friends i have to buy the xb1 and xbx version and the cross play version. šŸ™ˆšŸ™ˆ

    @b0ssieb0ss_4wv1 Probably me confusing things. Basically if you buy the Series X version of the game you'll be given the XB1 version too. You'd just need to install them both at the same time.

    It's this bit of the initial post in case that helps clarify thing:

    Our Cross-Gen Bundle provides you with digital access to Battlefield 2042 on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, or on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

    e.g. If you pick up a Cross-Gen edition of Battlefield 2042 on the Xbox One, youā€™ll have access to the Xbox One X|S version of the game should you later switch to newer hardware.

    Sorry if this has already been asked, but...


    Would I need to install both the PS5 and PS4 version of the game to play with friends from both generations? Like, can I just install the PS5 version and the game is smart enough to limit to the PS4 maps/player limit if it detects a PS4 user in the group/party, or are they completely separate and Iā€™d have to play the PS4 version of the game to play with PS4 friends?

    No. Those who own the xbox series S / X or PS5 will be able to play with each other, even with those on the PC. 

    Those who own a PS4 or Xbox One will be able to play with each other. So you will not be able to play with someone from the old generation you being on the new generation of console.

    @PremiumDamian That's not quite right technically. People on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X can install the last gen version of the game and play with friends on PS4/XB1 that way, with the lesser player numbers and smaller maps.

    I pre-ordered Gold edition just because cross-gen bundle. Today I ask refund and got it in few minutes, great job from Sony (they send me mail with link if I want to cancel preorder because game is delayed). Now I will buy standard PS5 Edition, because I don't nees cosmetic staff for 20Ā£ more and don't care about 7 day early access).

    Why would you go back to last gen on a next gen console and a next gen game ? The performance and resolution are way way better on next gen. I will  never do that just to play with my friends.They should buy a next gen console :D

    @PremiumDamian It's not always that simple due to supply shortages and costs unfortunately. At least this way people have the option to still play with friends who haven't been able to upgrade yet.

    @PremiumDamian Well first thing is because last gen offers console only crossplay, 2nd thing is also well if you have a few people who are on last gen and wants to play with them all together (like more as 5 People) then it also makes sense to have the last gen version installed and last but not least it is a different experience as the current gen version in terms of map layout and total play experience, for an example on last gen version there was not so much vehicle spamming as it was on current gen, it was more relaxed but also more infantry based.

    @PremiumDamian thats a good question i got both ps5 and ps4 but im not planning to play it on ps4 but the on the other side its funto play with squad and like we know ps5 isa bit hard to get :D
