Re: False positive bans
MY BAN HAS JUST BEEN OVERTURNED
Earlier I wrote about how I created a complaint to the European Consumer Center. Just for reference this is what I wrote:
I have been denied access to one of my software purchases I have made from them. I sent them an email asking for an investigation and after they've reviewed my case they responded with the following "we determined that we took the correct action in accordance with EA policies and procedures". To me that response looks automated and have my doubts about a real person actually looking into my case. This sanction is unfair as I have not broken any of EA's policies and procedures and they refuse to detail what exactly caused my suspension.
Shortly before that I (hopelessly) appealed my ban on EA's help page for the third time but this time I thought to myself "If I attach something won't my case have a higher chance of actually getting reviewed by a human?". So I attached a photo of the error I get when starting Battlefield and wrote them the following:
Hello, Some volunteer on the forum suggested I contact support and provide as much information as possible. As you might've guessed the reason for my ban appeal is because I haven't cheated or broken any rules. The only things that happened before getting banned that might've caused it would be the following: - I once fell under the map but I immediately redeployed so I didn't abuse anything. - I played a few matches with bots because I wanted a more casual experience and from what I could gather online that might've counted as farming xp. - I used my wooting keyboard's software to change the colors and the key actuation distance which could've made the anticheat think I was using a cheat. Very improbable but I'm just stating possible reasons. Could you please look thoroughly into my case? I have never used any software, abused any bug to gain an advantage or broken any rule. If you need any more information please contact me and I will provide it as fast as I can in order to speed up the process. Could you please also change up the response email slightly so I know that someone actually looked into this and it's not just an automated response? I'm starting to loose hope. Regards, .................
Like two hours later I got the following email and my ban appeal's status turned to "Fixed" so I thought they didn't bother looking into my appeal once again but I was wrong.
Their response:
Hello, We saw some unusual activity on your EA Account. To keep your EA Account safe, we have reset your password. What happened and what do I need to do? After noticing potentially suspicious activity associated with your EA account, we reset the password to protect your personal information. We don’t think the suspicious activity is from unauthorized access to EA databases. We think it may be related to issues like phishing, using weak passwords, logging in from shared connections, or using the same password on multiple websites. To unlock your account, reset your password using the URL link below, or select “Forgot your password?” next time you try to login to your account. We also recommend enabling turning on Login Verification, which checks for new or unrecognized accounts when you sign-in, to fully secure your EA Account. You will need to reset your EA Account password to log in to your account and use the online features of our games.
I quickly reset and looked into my ban history. I couldn't believe it. They actually did it. Ban status appeared (and I quote) "Overturned".
By the wording of that email that I got they are blaming it all on the "unusual activity" instead of acknowledging their anti-cheat is terrible but at the very least I got unbanned.
There is still hope guys. Don't let them take it away from you.
