Re: Theres too much spotting

BF4 had the same problem because you could easily 3D spot by spamming the Spot button and also had Proxy grenades.  Flanking was not a thing in that game.  At least, not often.

BFV had the best balance for the spot system.  3D spotting was much more limited, Flares were easy to counter, and you were notified CLEARLY with your minimap being highlighted in yellow when you were spotted.  This allowed the opportunity to escape properly.  For those doing the spotting, it meant displacing the enemy or obviously revealing them.

This game needs that notification to be much more clear.  It seems to tell you if youve been revealed but *, it only lasts a couple seconds on your screen and half the time gets missed by all the chaos and clutter because its right below the Points received notifications.  Proxy Grenades need to be more identifiable and Spot Assists need to be differentiated from regular assists (from dealing damage or being a Driver of a vehicle) and they need to earn fewer points.  I would also consider lowering amount of Proxy Grenades held to a cap of 1 vs 2.  They have really good range so probably leave it at that.  OR like how BFV had it, the higher above the ground something is, the wider its spot range becomes.  That means Proxys will have a smaller radius vs say a drone thats up higher.

BFV did the spot system right and was the most balanced.  Its a good system to stick with and fine tune.  Hell, even bring back Suppression Spotting.  That was a excellent format as it allowed HMGs and LMGs to have lower accuracy at longer ranges but still contribute by spotting enemies by continuously firing at them.  It was a situation where you had to give up your location to briefly reveal the enemies'.

@BgobbleD No bfv was horrible, oh an enemy, let me ping him, oh wait I pinged a tiny branch on a tree by accident, yeah no thanks, the ping system is the same now and I never use that horrible thing.

@R1ckyDaMan19 Sounds like a personal problem. The ping system in BFV was never meant to 3D Spot enemies. It just points your allies to the direction of the ping. Its the same system most games (Battle Royales primarily) use these days because its effective and balanced for communication without 3D spotting.
  • @BgobbleD You and I played two very different BF4 games then lol. Yeah spotting you could hit a button, but you still had a sight on them. And proxy nades weren't used very much on PS4. The hunt was still definitely on in BF4. You rolled into a flag and the cat and mouse game was on!

In BF2042 it's a good thing your character can't slip on proxy nades because they are rolling all over the floors like spilled marbles. Anytime an advance happens people are throwing proxy nades ahead of the action. You roll into a flag, turn the corner, and every defender is aiming down sites at you lol.

BF4 also had class specific gear. This game doesn't. Any specialist can have proxy nades and the other options just aren't viable enough to be an option unless you just want the mastery badge. lol.

@BgobbleD Yeah but half the time it didn't ping where you wanted because all it took was the smallest thing that you can't see to be in the way and you would ping in the middle of nowhere, it's a good system in theory but in practice it's tripe.

It's not user error that you didn't see that tiny half rendered thing in the way.

@ArchAngeL-PCX You do realize that you can spam spotting in BF4 and it would throw a "dorito" on the enemy for 3D spotting? Unlike BF1 (which started it), there was no cooldown to spotting to prevent spam spotting. Also, in BF4, you could spot through foliage and smoke at times and it had super long range. Thus you didnt even need clear view of an enemy to 3D spot them. It was well known that people could simply throw a "dorito" on to an enemy and then just aim right below that marker. Its actually the EXACT SAME thing happening in 2042. Many times i dont even see a guy in smoke or foliage but see his HP and the red marker. I just shoot at that and kill him. Its a broken and frustrating mechanic that should not have been reverted.

Hmm not sure.  Had to of been user error mate.  I had very few issues with pinging what i wanted in that game to my friends and squad mates.  I will agree that every now and then, a branch or shrub would get in the way and pings that instead but still falls a bit on the user to make the adjustment.  I would say from a developer standpoint, thats the only real thing that should have been adjusted so those were considered "transparent" and unpingable to prevent those situations.

@KillerMcKraken Well yeah, weapons should of been made open like now but the gadget and throwable situation has caused big issues.
  • @BgobbleDyeah I know what spotting in BF4 is and it's not remotely on the level of BF2042. You still have to get your cross hairs on someone and initiate and action. And with BF4 maps design, that's often not an easy thing to do. It's most useful for the camping snipers on ridges, etc.

Right now, any time I get close to a flag in BF2042, every defender knows I'm there long before I even engage. I have never seen this in any BF game I've played yet. Not even close. BF4 is no where near on this level. The instant I get close, even in cover, EVERYONE runs to my position...EXACTLY to my position. It's constant.  Again, I've never seen this in any BF game before.

So now on PS5 you see zerg rushes all the time because you have to have mass support to flood the area with ping signals lol!!!

And of course now the UI tells you how many enemies are on the flag. lol.

@ArchAngeL-PCXNot just the ball, all gadgets should be restricted to the specialist it is associated with.

And I wouldnt remove the ball, just make it a motion ball instead of a proxy Ball and make it recon specialists only.

Keep weapons how they are, its nice to be able to pick any gun you want.

  • So, it's OK that everyone will eventually use the best assault rifle or, smg or, sniper rifle? Cool, count me out.

@R1ckyDaMan19 Yeah gear should definitely be restricted to the specialist classes. And I like the motion ball idea. Give it to Recon (Rao, Paik, Caspar).

I also think we need an ECM/Stealth class of specialist like in my other thread. Call it Spec Ops if you will, but it needs its own stealth/jamming gear.

@KillerMcKraken Well he guns are totally off balance anyway. SMGs are so OP it's not funny. So even if you restrict them to a class, you'll have people playing mostly that class.

@KillerMcKraken I hate sniper rifles,I still wouldn't use one just because some tube on youtube says its the best gun in the game.

Right now everyone will gravitate towards the best gun that suits their playstyle, admittedly the pp 29 situation was dire but glady is gone now.

I certainly get killed by a variety of guns from differing distances.
