I don't play BF2042 since they don't have a true, official Hardcore mode like Bad Company 2's, and with 32 players.
But if I read posts above correctly, in a 64-player match these days, they're not all human?? Just wondering
derezzerThe game is over 3 years old, so the player number is decreasing, which is normal for a game’s lifecycle. Given that BF2042 is not the best in the series, understatement, the player drop off maybe went a bit faster.
I mainly play Conquest 64 with crossplay off. Depending on day and time matches may be not fully populated with real players. There’s a 16 player start limit, so you might start a game with 8v8 real players, backfilled with AI bots. Usually these AI are replaced by real players pending the game but sometimes the game will finish with AI on the final scoreboard.
On top of that there are too many ways players are being dispersed; crossplay, too many game modes on offer. Either they have to give us 1-player starts for all these modes, or just get back to the core and get rid of all additional modes. The core being; Conquest 64, Breakthrough, Rush and TDM.

Yep getting into matches is a lot more difficult these days with cross play off.
Life would be so much easier if we had 1-player starts in all AOW and Official Weekly Portal Modes.

Thank you for the info! Good to know.
Makes the game even less appealing to me, unfortunately. I appreciate EA's effort to try and help the situation and it makes sense to do that, but I don't want to play vs. AI in BF, unless I am doing a SP campaign.
I wish matches weren't so huge. I think BC2's 16v16 was the best size. More than that just gets too crazy, chaotic, and meaningless in a way... and increases the chance of AI players happening.
Everyone just seems like robot widgets running and shooting around as it is in 64 player matches. No individuality. No character. No charm. Knowing that a % is AI doesn't help things for me on that :)
