Renewal on 64 is a spawn trap galore

Only once in 6 games has the attack passed the first sector.

This map on 64 needs a lot of work

  • Im guessing you mean on breakthrough. Im on last gen consoles so weve had 64 man maps/games from the beginning.

Youre right that the attacking team can get stuck pretty easy. But i found a way to combat this and it USUALLY works.

Get in a fast vehicle. I usually use a lav as i dont feel bad about leaving those laying around. Haul booty to the far right side, theres a kind of trail/road that runs aling the edge of the map. Follow it to back behind A2 theres like a ridge back there, hide an insertion beacon.

Your squad will spawn there and you guys will attack a2. Theres going to be next to no one at a2 because the entire enemy team is pushed up in the mountains beyond a1, as soon as you start taking it, most of their team is going to start falling back. You probably wont take a2. Youll probably die and have to respawn on your insertion beacon a bunch of times. But because youre attacking a2 and the enemy team is having to fall back to protect it, the rest of your team will have an easier time pushing up to a1.

Worse case, it doesnt work and you have to repeat everything from scratch, still better than getting sniped 3 secs after you spawn.

I also do this on kalediscope except go far left instead of far right, but hiding the insertion beacon is harder

  • Agreed, I've played with some good teammates and it's still a huge task to take that sector.

  • TBH all that 64 conquest has shown is how terrible all of these maps are. The overall flow, as well as the objectives layout, makes absolutely no sense at all.

Levelcap mentioned in a video what an old bf dev said about map design. Apparently dice used to have map designers design the map 1st, focusing on map flow, cover placement etc. Once finished the other devs come in and flesh out the map, essentially make it look pretty.

This changed and they started making the map look a certain way 1st or fit a certain asthetic and then the devs had to make the game modes fit with what they are given.

No idea if that's true or if it's still the case, this dev said from the first bf to bf3 that's how they did it and they changed it with bf4.

  • Yeah, doesn't surprise me too much as all of the map designs are subpart for gameplay purposes.  It wasn't like they were focused on a single mode specifically and the others suffered from it.  It was simply not designed at all to be played but instead to look nice while running around (ala Battle Royal).

    We tried something like that.

The rest of our team did not get the opportunity and instead kept trying to... defend the spawn sector.

Yeah unfortunately your team is sometimes trash, but that can happen on any given game.

I think some maps are even worse on 64 player mode, especially Discarded. That map is quite okay with 128 players, but absolutely garbage with 64. Renewal is just a crap map overall. There is a giant wall that is perfect for especially two meta specialists (Mackay, Sundance) and then there is nothing but open empty field. Whoever designed that map should go back to school.

@TickTack121Many of the maps have high structures, that oversee large portions of the maps (without much cover), this combined with vehicles makes the experience pretty bad overall.

64 players are less chaotic, but it doesn't save the game, the maps are just too badly designed. Some of the problems in 64 player modes can perhaps be fixed by changing flag positions, but knowing Dice, they will not fix their bad maps, they never have in earlier titles (only made very small adjustments).

BF2042 has many problems, but the map-design is probably the worst offender, because it will be very hard to fix.

Yep, played like 10 renewal on attack (ps5 64)... We never made it past the first sector.

    Always a spawn trap.

I quit the last time.. I just couldn't bare it anymore
