Repetition of the Same Mistakes
Watching the Hazard Zone reveal was an interesting experience, and highlighted several things for me. The first being that DICE is trying something somewhat new with a BR-like mode, which is cool, but is also showed that they didn't learn from Firestorm and why it failed severely.
In case it needs to be described as to why, Firestorm failed because it was gated behind a pay wall. Whether or not it turned out to be a fun mode, and whether or not Hazard Zone will prove to be a fun experience, it will suffer a similar fate that Firestorm had simply because it gives no real introduction to an average player who might be thinking "Hey, I think I'll try this mode and see how I feel about the rest of the game".
This is why Warzone was largely successful. CoD did what CoD does best with it's multiplayer and Campaign experience, and additionally included Warzone to get more players on board.
DICE, I don't work there. I know I don't see all that happens behind closed doors. But why is it so difficult to learn from previous mistakes? Why is it so difficult to maintain the distinguishing features your franchise is known for in your base game? I would think EA would want this game to be successful, perhaps they had forgotten why that was the case years ago. Portals could be the only reason I really buy this game, and by now, I'm more interested to refund my purchase and move on to other team base shooter like SQUAD, Insurgency, and even to continue playing older titles like BF4 and BF1.
What a shame, to those that have been around for this long and witnessed the Company and Developer's strides and failures. I see now where the priorities lie, and as I'm sure it is with most others, it's just business to you all now.
If anyone feels like I'm way off, just say so. I'd love to enjoy this game for what it offers, but it feels to me like the biggest departure from why I loved the franchise from the beginning.
