I would guess they were probably using a SOFLAM it looks like.
@Ironhead841This. Getting 100+ assists with Soflam isn't too uncommon if that's what the player is focused on. 200 is pretty impressive for a 30 minute match, but far from unreasonable given the number of tickets attackers have.

They're not "doing nothing", spotting enemies and locking onto vehicles is super beneficial for your team. The problem is that the whole "scoring system" doesn't really exist, it's a half hacked together system not reflective of contribution like previous BF games. So "spots" lead to assists which inflates that score so much.
You’re missing my "broken scoring system mechanic" point that I was trying to make.
No one should be able to top a scoreboard by just SOFLAM or spotting alone.
Topping the scoreboard just using spotting gadgets or other passive means is nothing new. Spotting flares in the last two games were an absolute xp bonanza and a few carefully placed supply crates would earn you loads for doing absolutely nothing.
