I personally would choose option #3
- A console only version and a PC only version
Originally, I couldn't care less about cross-play one way or another but after reading the forums here and on Reddit as well as Twitter, obviously, a lot of console players don't want to play with PC players because PC players apparently have an unfair advantage because of mouse and keyboard or god-like superpowers because we use PCs or all PC players are cheaters blah, blah, blah.
It's tiresome and I say just give them what they are asking for.
As a PC player I personally don't think any sort of "aim-assist" belongs in any FPS period full-stop, and I honestly don't believe they'll ever get the net-code figured out between the two and I think consoles are holding back what could be achieved with this game if they had a PC-only version the number of assets and "levolution" per map would be significantly higher as well as much more detailed.

Good post, sums it up perfectly. 👍

It comes down to different people playing the same game with different rules.
I already have issues to understand what other pc players are capable of or not, and it becomes more difficult with console players and all the aim assist related mechanics.- 3 years ago

I already have issues to understand what other pc players are capable of or not, and it becomes more difficult with console players and all the aim assist related mechanics.Aim Assist is becoming a major battle on Modern Warfare 2 forums as well. Theres videos showing how insane its getting for controller players. I play on PS5 and can attest to its strengths. Does it guarantee im winning fights against KnM? No. They still have better speed and accuracy to some degree especially when at longer range and with dealing with 1 shot snipers. But its pretty crazy how much AA is controlling my aim. And I feel like I MUST use it to keep up.
But heres the thing: theres already a solution for controller players to get "mouse-like" aim without needing Aim Assist.
Gyro Aim. And not the Wii days of gyro aim. Its been improved tremendously since then especially in the last couple of years.
I, along with a large growing part of the community have been converting to it and begging for its implementation in all shooters for console players. Just like a mouse, its way more responsive of an aiming system vs sticks. I play a decent amount of Fortnite because it has a great implenentation of Flick Stick Gyro Aim and man it feels good to just flick on people as when I use to when I played on PC. And this is all done with a PS5 controller and Aim Assist is shut OFF.
Here are some example videos from various game and some of these are playing on PC because its the only way to get Gyro Aim (through Steam or some other platform) since not every shooter has it:
Is it the solution for all players? No. But for someone like me who doesnt mind crossplay with all platforms, its a great, evolutionary system for controller players to improve gaming on console and bridge the gap between analog stick aiming and MnK aiming. We have begun seeing a trend of devs implementing it. Just wished it was a bit faster.

I'm pretty sure that an XSX/PS5 exceeds the ability of DICE's min spec PC requirement. Series S is something like a 1060 and the min PC spec listed for 2042 is a 1050ti.
Also from another perspective I believe console outsells PC 4:1. A shared console version probably justifies more dev dollars. So even if console is holding PC back technically, it is probably giving a boost in the area of content/quality.

I think it sums it up nicely, I vote console only pc only.

This is the best reply. I also feel that most of the FPS in the last years went backwards in terms of what the devs werent allowed to do because of the limitations of the consoles. Let the console players aim assist eachother in their little world and give us back the levolution we always wanted.

I understand your thinking but at the bare minimum there should be the option for PC and console to play together like we have now. I really like to be able to play with all of my friends regardless of platform.

@Ironhead841The newest consoles have "plenty" of CPU-resources which seems to be important for destruction/levolution events.
The consoles may be 'starved' for RAM compared to many PCs, but I think that even today we still have a plenty of PCs with only 8GB RAM, which makes the consoles comparable with PCs.
The consoles GPUs are not the fastest, but that is more a matter of 'eye-candy' than game-play mechanics. We already have a lot of graphical options on PC and they could (and probably does), just use lower settings than 'Ultra' on PC.
The next BF-title will probably not be developed for PS4/XBOX one which would be a limiting factor (and perhaps already was in 2042). But BFV ran on older consoles and had way more destruction than 2042.- Ironhead8413 years agoHero
I understand what you're saying about being able to play with friends across platforms and like said before I'm not opposed to having a cross-play option in theory but in practice it just seems to torque-off almost everybody. Maybe if they could get the net-code figured out it might work, I don't know.
You may be onto something with them trying to make this game backwards compatible to older consoles, I hope they focus on the newer consoles and mid to high-end PCs going forward.

@Ironhead841 even as a huge proponent of crossplay I do wonder if there isn't additional server latency added because you've got PSN and XBL users leaving their closed networks to play with PC in the wild internet. I'm not a network engineer so I have no idea but I do wonder. Any in modern gaming everybody is generally torqued off regardless ;-)
