Should the next Battlefield game be console only?

With all the talk being that console players want crossplay with consoles only and getting rid of those disgusting cheating PC players should the next game release be console based only?

I will say upfront that I am one of those PC players so obviously I must be a cheater but this is not what the question is about.  I only state it to be transparent and that I am only asking the question and not trying to ignite another of those long winded debates that these forums seem to thrive on.

If you answer this question or participate in this thread feel free to simply state one of the three options listed below and leave it at that.

Who knows, if enough people respond to this then it may give EA and Dice a sort of benchmark to help decide if the next release is console based only.

  • Console Only
  • Console and PC
  • A console only version and a PC only version

My answer is Console and PC.

Are you serious? Bad Company games were both on PS3 and had the most Destruction. This is way off. You couldn’t be more wrong.

Anyway, to answer the original post. No. These games should be made for console and PC, but should NOT have crossplay outside of the consoles. PC players should always be separate, because their systems are not standardized.

Thanks for the great conversation so far guys!  It has been interesting to read.  I have been busy with real life work this week but this weekend I will try to tally up some sort of results from this unofficial poll.  This poll wont end so if anyone still has an opinion or view then please dont hesitate since we know that Dice may actually see this and consider it feedback...or they will laugh at it.

  • it won't be a problem anymore because when we see the massive increase in pc component prices, pc gaming is going to die.

PC Gaming has always been expensive if you buy the highest-end products. Look at old PC Gamer magazines from the early 00s and you will see builds in the 3-4k range.

idc what they do with the versions just no pc/console crossplay.  console can do their thing and pc can do theirs.  eliminates all the bickering about playing with each other

I understand what you're saying about being able to play with friends across platforms and like said before I'm not opposed to having a cross-play option in theory but in practice it just seems to torque-off almost everybody. Maybe if they could get the net-code figured out it might work, I don't know.

    @cso7777

You may be onto something with them trying to make this game backwards compatible to older consoles, I hope they focus on the newer consoles and mid to high-end PCs going forward.

@Ironhead841 even as a huge proponent of crossplay I do wonder if there isn't additional server latency added because you've got PSN and XBL users leaving their closed networks to play with PC in the wild internet. I'm not a network engineer so I have no idea but I do wonder. Any in modern gaming everybody is generally torqued off regardless ;-)

  • I personally think crossplay could work if there was more testing/ balancing. I am on console and have seen where PC players kill me before they are even in my line of sight. Don't know if this is that their performance is way better than mine and their computer processes me before my lowly ps5 can process them or what.

Maybe the only way it could work is if there was performace limitations on high end PCs.

The way it is now, I think it would be less infuriating to have console only and PC only versions. Most people stick with consoles to have a level playing field
