@DingoKillr That's where we disagree though.
Mind you, i don't have a problem with you wanting to keep it (insofar as that being your opinion), i just don't associate skating battlefield with a good thing, and don't think sliding every two seconds should be a thing in this particular game at all. (and again, that's just my opinion).
I think the mechanism itself has some value though and could be implemented in a way that would make sense in battlefield as i've known it, but Dice are going to do whatever they end up doing based on what people want, so if i'm in the minority on this, we'll be sliding like the whole map is covered in grease regardless of what my opinion is.
I'm one of the sliding lemmings just like everyone else in Destiny for instance because that's the core gameplay, but *I* don't think it gives much of anything to BF and it's (granted, now old since 5) gameplay style, but Dice seems to be dangling the "we're gong back to what you liked" card to get customers back for 2042, well, sliding was part of what turned a good few off 5.
It's not a complete dealbreaker for me in it's entirety if it does turn into skating-land, but it's certainly not going to be a plus in my book.
However, what i suggested above would move it from a core movement mechanism to a periodic tool you could change a moment with, something i think makes a lot more sense vs the franchise over the years.
You could pull off a hail mary offensive or save your behind now and then, but you'd still be sprinting (and risking the penalties that come with it) for the majority of your transitional movement.
