The fear for the real snipers comes from our mortality.
In a game where you can just come back to life and go bash the snipers brains out, that fear is greatly diluted and all that is left resentment towards the "camper who got lucky".
Snipers to an extent require one to remain undetected and/or out of reach. In their infinite "wisdom" DICE made their scopes be beacons of intense light to show where the shooter is (unless they are quickscoping).
People can easily shoot back at them too.
I'd be happy with there being no sniper rifles in the game except ones you can pick up at control points but from the sounds of it it sounds like there could very well be 128 snipers on a team across every class.

@Noodlesocks128 snipers would be insane! haha.
I try to stomp on snipers as much as the next i suppose. But snipers have taught me to move with cover better throughout so many games played. Much of my current semi adequate overall stealth of movement can be attributed to avoiding sniper fire day after day on the familiar maps.
Movement focused on minimizing your exposure to the horizon, using the cover of buildings, rocks, holes, trees and the surrounding terrain. Its ok to stop in cover and take a look around. And smoke is fantastic for moving with cover as well.
Anyways, yeah snipers.- 5 years agoThat and don't stand still. Actually, as recon being stealth is one trait they should learn, so good point.

Another thing that makes the idea of pickup only Sniper rifles a better idea than main class weapons is that as class weapons, the sniper rifles are embarasingly unreliable to kill target that do not stay still to pose for a headshot, resulting in lots of hitmarkers.
I would be 100% in support of sniper rifles being powerful pickup only weapon that could rip a hole at someones torso if they hit

Depending on how ammo resupply works, how about just limiting the ammo a sniper can hold. I don't mean for snipers to have just 10 rounds before having an arduous resupply task/trek, but something that would stop snipers just camping and just random pot shot firing. There zero wrong with a good sniper or 3 in a team, it's having a useless 2 dozen that's the issue.
- 5 years ago@ninjapenquinuk limit only impacts specific players. If a specialist with ammo, a Squad leader or commanders then they have unlimited ammo.

Agree class sniper or specialist sniper are going to less effective so more hurts the team. Pickup can be limited and very effective.

That would kill the game for me.
- TankerFlanker5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Noodlesocks You already know on the city map with the sandstorm that there's going to be a crap ton of snipers lol.

I'm sure we all agree the absolute worst of the worst are the non-spotting recons. I'll take the the non reviving medic over those.

@A_al_K_pacino_AI'm sure I've helped my team win some games blowing up mines and enemy claymores and c4 with my MAV and actually killing enemies with their own explosives, I blew up a tank with their own teams mines yesterday. I spot any and everything on BF4 with my MAV and BFV with flare spam.
I'm pretty good at pushing snipers off rooftops as well with it and of course destroying their precious beacons first.

Well you can snipe with every weapon ingame so no need for dedicated snipers

I remember playing BF3 and BF2BC and there was never the problem that there is today with half your team sitting back sniping rather than pushing the point.
It’s extremely frustrating. I get the whole ‘let people play what they want’ but can we have a game mode where this is a thing and have other game modes that ensure balance is a thing?
You might be making some 12 year old kid happy sitting in the spawn sniping people for 4 kills a game, however for that one person sniping you are irritating countless more players trying to play the game mode as intended.
- 4 years ago@Shoogaboog Interesting. I also remember BFBC2 and how snipers were already a plague there. Especially 'aggressive snipers', who usually were just quite bad.
But in the end Battlefield is THE arcade shooter and what's realistically the difference between Bob who already tried to kill someone with his C4 jeep, but dies every time doing so and a sniper that's just camping a mountain and maybe once in an hour gets a kill in? They both don't add much value, the latter seems frowned upon a lot more though.
The whole 'PTFO' is also very overrated and I usually see the people with a very marginal k/d ratio, who happen to be in the middle of the scoreboard at best, spam this into the chat.
In the end BF is not a really serious game and more of a sandbox kind of thing.
DICE made it very clear too. They have eliminated virtually every possibility to make Battlefield competitive nowadays (you can't create private servers anymore, basically no support for clans - platoons don't count, gating unlocks, poor implementation of infantry-only game modes) so for me it is no surprise the game became even more of a sandbox experience than ever before.
I've played BF competively since 1942 (Clanbase nation cups, ESL ladders etc.) and the game is nothing like that anymore. I think people should accept this. The audience has changed.
So, hop on to your plane and use it as a taxi!- 4 years ago@infantrypeasant Old bf2 days "taliban taxis" -c4jeep,were major issue
- 4 years ago@Shoogaboog Every gun and kit have its purpose in game..even snipers, their task is difficult tarkets/clear up the way in.
