There are too many snipers in fps especially Battlefield series and triple that for COD. The game dosen't flow due to being put in a situation where you have no defense, dreaded head shot from no where. What made Black Hawk Down a great movie was the grind not the sniper play...there weren't any. So our one chance to limit how many snipers are on the map is to sign a petition with your screen name and hope the real players can be heard. I will be the first.

Too number of snipers in COD is because they implement quick-scoping as a game mechanic. They tried to remove it and the community screamed about it. Remove quick-scoping and make people actually aim, the problem goes away.
Over the years, sniping was also a skill in Battlefield games. However with the advent of BF1 and BFV, snipers were equipped with standard infantry rifles (with a scope), because that was what they used. Give people a rifle that was used by standard infantry and a low power scope, they can engage quickly at short range. In reality every class would have used them.
Your example of Black Hawk down is purely what you say, a film. As for no snipers, the two Delta Force that voluntarily go down to the crashed helicopter and give their lives defending it (and ultimately won the Medal of Honor in real life) were both snipers.
Have snipers equipped with high power scopes that are slow to aim, it makes it more realistic and limits the amount of people that will play them. If you get taken out from a mile away, then that is skill.
