So who are these 'veterans' that get invites to the playtest?

I've been reading about 'veterans' that got invited to testing BF2042, and I'm really wondering who's getting in and how is determined that they're a veteran. I really get the feeling that nowadays ...

I got invited no idea what the criteria is but I have played every BF since the first Bad Company, I missed the older PC games, and I had 'veteran' dog tags. I also have an EA playtest profile. I also had 2042 pre ordered. I figured those were the reasons I got invited.
