So who are these 'veterans' that get invites to the playtest?

I've been reading about 'veterans' that got invited to testing BF2042, and I'm really wondering who's getting in and how is determined that they're a veteran. I really get the feeling that nowadays ...

I didn't require signing up, but then again I've been participating in every PTE since BF3/HL, so either they made a mistake or they invited some selected previous CTE members at the same time as those signing up.
