If I had to guess...
Primary target: 18 - 25 yo gamers who like arena/BR games, with a military skew
Secondary target: existing, casual BF players

I couldnt remain with a straight face comparing BF2042 with a BR or an Arena game ... 2042 is as far from an Arena game as planetside 2 or MAG were ...
BF3 in the other end was an Arena shooter in many maps and modes .. RUSH game mode introduce with BFBC was a linear " Arena style " map with little to no flank possible where the battle always range from Right , Left , Middle attack that open up but the other part of the map is left behind so its another rectangle like maps that open and once again remain Linear ..
BF2042 was build from the ground up to be a Large scale combines arms game with heavy focus on teamplay , Anti infantry , Anti armor , Anti air dynamics .. Regardless of anecdotes or else its how the game was build .. Lacking VOIP and platoons and team structure is a real problem tho in 2042 wich can create the chaos some peoples feel they cant organise etc..
BF2042 is way closer to a game like planetside 2 than it is from a game like any arena shooter ..
BF3 and BFBC2 was closer to COD arena game than any BF games before it .. Also EA never wanted BF to become a fully fledge BR games because they didnt want another EA game to compeate with their very sucessfull BR wich is Apex legends .. Specialist were not created to be BR characters at all ..
Thats gameplay straight from BF3 ... Look like Arena shooter to me or a Domination match in COD dosnt it ?

- 4 years ago@Stew360 Why do you keep comparing 2042 with a more than 10 years old version of BF (BF3) instead with its direct predecessor BF5?
For me, 2042 is a downgrade in probably almost every aspect of BATTLEFIELD gameplay in general when compared with BF5.
Also, using a map from a pure CQ DLC and saying its representative for entire BF3 is a bit of deception, isn't it? The BF3/4 CQ maps were a nice distraction and addition but never replaced true BF modes and maps.
The rush mode however, is a successful addition to BF and perfectly fits the typical BF style.- 4 years ago@iamwienr BFV is a WW BF game and cant be compared to anything in BF besides 1942 , BF1 , BF1943 and itself BFV
- 4 years ago@Stew360 My fault then. I wasn't aware that having the ability to choose which server to play in, joining on servers with friends playing in, inviting friends to join my game is limited to world war scenarios.
Also a working class system with restricted weapons to guarantee a scissor-paper-rock gameplay which is one of the key elements of BATTLEFIELD is limited to... pretty much every BF game except 2042.
Most of us here have been playing BF since BF2 or even earlier. I played every BF since BF2 except hardline and totally can't agree with your argumentation.
So I took the liberty to check out your BF5 stats and now fully understand why BF5 is not part of your argumentation.
Maybe 2042 is the first BF you actually have the feeling of being somewhat good in and thats why you get the impression of 2042 being a "good game"?

It was there that the break with traditional format begun, although BF1 (bless it) pulled it out of the comtemporary /near future milsim mould that BF3/4 established.
Remember the cyber punky feel to the initial BFV promotions, elite skins behind a boin paywall and the the firestorm BR? This has ben an itch they have wanted to scratch for a long time now.

BF4 wasn't milsim. It was engaging to play for a start.
