I think we vets simply have to give room for innovation at this point.
FPS games now are just more fast paced sliding around. If Dice doesn't follow any of the trends they simply won't get the new kids to jump in.
I'm not a fan of a lot of these new installments. I don't wan't more games where you 1v1 winning chance is relying on what "hero" you encounter instead of how good you are.
Wall-hack "hero powers" is just.. not battlefield for me - but it is a feature a lot of new kids wants I bet.
btw, love the name @OnkelSkinkehjelm , Go' weekend :-)

@FawKa innovation addresses a problem or shortcoming in a new way, the Specialist system rips out one of the core pillars of the game to chase trends from Apex and Warzone and destroys what teamwork we experienced in previous Battlefield title by making everyone a lone wolf. That is not innovation.
If DICE really wanted to experiment with a Hero shooter they could have 1. made a new IP 2. Kept Heroes to Hazard Zone or 3. Had a Classic Battlefield mode with Classes run side by side with the Hero mode which would have pleased the Apex crowd and the Battlefield crowd.

@ragnarok013Yea I agree. I'm really not a fan of it at all. I guess I ment innovating Battlefield more than innovating something 100% new and unique.
It's just from a business perspective I >understand< why it's being done. This is where the money is at. Dice has to find a way to keep selling stuff in game that doesn't divide the player base.
I mean we are all kinda sure the monetization of this game will be done around the specialists right? Either by unlocking them quicker than those having to grind or something similar. Or has it been stated that it's only going to be cosmetic?- ragnarok0134 years agoHero+

IMO BF5 failed because it deviated from the traditional Battlefield formula too much and 2042 is doing that even more instead of correcting course. I hoped DICE tried to figure out why BF4 is still going strong after 8 years but instead of doing that they invoked the nostalgia from BF3/4 visually in the trailers and then gave us Specialists and ping spotting again.

That is the thing though.
In the last 10 years, the entertainment industry do not want to start brand new IPs. They want to just alter existing ones to get free audience that follows the brand.
Most people seem to be working at a certain place for a short term and they want to reap their short term profits and hop to the next host.
I hope this game manages to be successful because otherwise it will be the second L in a row for DICE and we might not see any more battlefield outside of freemium mobile gatcha games.
