@TickTack121To say nothing of nonsensical balancing.
My most famous BFV clip so far has over 900k views and it involves me spotting a 4k bomb slooooowly falling in my direction and successfully getting out of the blast area.

Most people find that really weird balancing.
Also apart from the Stealth tank we have "supersonic planes" that can hardly be heard before they pass over as if they fly faster than their sound.
I read someone say that BF2042 will have Heroes etc. because “that’s where the money is at”.
But 5 years ago, BF1 was a massive hit that sold a ton of copies.
So a “normal” Battlefield game can achieve success in the marketplace if it’s done well.
- R1ckyDaMan194 years agoSeasoned Ace@VOLBANKER_PC BF1 was a massive hit because it was on the back of bf4, confidence was high we trusted and believed in dice to deliver.

@R1ckyDaMan19BF1 also capitalized on the failure of CoD Infinite Warfare.
Both BF3 and BF1 caught CoD at a bad franchise entry so they became CoD refugee games.
I am one of those people who moved to BF3 from MW3

But both were still good games unlike BFV and so far also BF2042

@VOLBANKER_PC BF1 also had the worst player retention of any Battlefield game which really must be considered. I'd argue that BF1 sold well based on the other factors mentioned in this thread 1. the success of BF4 2. COD AW being universally despised by the COD community 3 a really excellent marketing campaign that actually created hype.

Excellent points @ragnarok013
- BF1 released as the fastest selling BF game ever.
- Was praised for its daring move of depicting historic world war events from 100 years ago.
- Was praised for its graphical designs of splendid map scenery
- Was praised for its sound engineering
- Had probably the best marketing buildup and market communication that EA has made in recent times to launch a BF game (of last 4 BF games. BF3 was truly the best hype of all ever and a marketing master piece! 😀👍)
- BF1 was commercially a success during initial sales
- But was astounded by the very short-lived success with the player population and had the shortest timespan of any released BF game, also when compared to it's number of global sold licenses. There was simply no long-term 'stickiness' in it with its player base. And thereby a very short timespan for commercially bringing in subsequent revenue to EA, also reason why additional development of more contents and support was cut short by them.
Main reason why also we were many that did not at all comprehend why EA leadership went onto yet another historic depict being BFV for the next one...
And the commercial failure of BFV speaks for itself... (despite it probably had the best BF game mechanics of all, after its last update)

Now I know that you are a Flying Ace, so I fully trust your judgement on this!
I relied my own poor flying results in BFV to be due to the old clunky airplanes we had to master in that game and then my own mediocre abilities to handle those fragile, slow-reacting creatures. Certainly not easy to do much meaningful dog fighting there for me... 😂
While in BF4 I had a much better feeling of the air vehicles and even had some great fun piloting them if no Red Baron Ace on the enemy team. 😎

@CyberDymeYes, and @ragnarok013 is correct as well. Battlefield 1 also had more pre-testing to go alongside their naturally shorter development window, since it was a Battlefront reskin, which in and of itself is why I feel many people were not retained…
Personally I felt Battlefield 1 did many more things wrong development and gameplay wise than Battlefield V which compounded the following game’s failure. Some systems have never recovered: plane combat and dynamics @SirBobdk, vehicle physics and interactions, the entire melee system , player visibility , etc - ragnarok0134 years agoHero+

IMO it was the first DICE Battlefield to substantially deviate from the long term "Battlefeel"(tm) ;-) in terms of gun play, elite classes, and behemoths. BF1's atmosphere was stellar and one of the reasons that I really wanted to like it so much.

@ragnarok013Absolutely the same... I went ALL IN on that game and felt ultimately the same way you describe... the busted melee system also made me see red too... but damn what a beautiful game.
I still remember playing and pushing bug reports in the Closed Alpha and when the full game came out, I was like, "OHHH.... these were purposeful design choices... oh man..." - ragnarok0134 years agoHero+

@ragnarok013Yeah man... I felt a little sick at that moment in time.
I did enjoy Battlefield 1 for a while... but I just could not stick it out.

Maybe Dice Stockholm should just leave the Battlefield franchise to Ripple Effect (former Dice LA) and let this 2042 be the start of a new franchise.
Ripple Effect seems to understand more what the Battlefield fans want when looking at the Portal mode, the way 2042 is made just makes it look like it's aimed at COD and Apex fans.

@BlackidusYou could say that the Battlefield brand is suffering from Stockholm syndrome 😉
- 4 years ago@UP_Hawxxeye LoL Good one 🙂
