South Africa: Dead Servers, Unplayable

Hello there,

Long time die-hard Battlefield fan here. Name's Hades, and I am from South Africa.

I'll cut straight to the point. I love BF2042 and want to play it more, especially after the new update. New map, new Specialist, new battle pass I can level up in....except, I actually can't.

Battlefield 2042 is essentially unplayable for me right now, and that's upsetting.

Back during the beta, you could find Conquest and Breakthrough games quickly. Same after release. Hazard Zone...not so much. Not enough people here wanted to try it, and I have yet to experience the mode.

Right now though, I can sit in a lobby for ages without getting a game. It will throw me into a server, but there's no one else there, and it can't start, even with AI, until a certain amount of players have joined.

"Just play AI matches then" you might say. Well, I have, but besides the fact that there is an XP cap playing in co-op/AI, you can't complete Battle Pass missions. Which means you can't level the Pass, meaning my Year 1 pass for the game is slowly going to waste as I run out of time to complete the premium pass, losing out on everything in it.

DICE, we need an actual server browser. We need Battlelog, or the in game browser you switched BF4 to after having it in BF1 etc. We need to be able to see what servers are available, and if need be we need to be able to play in other regions, not be locked because of the system. I know its possible, you've done it before, and Portal already has it too. Why can't it be in Hazard Zone and All Out Warfare?

Myself and whatever other players here that still want to play are stuck without any options because of this, and we really need it to change.

If I need to take the 100 to 200 ping spike to be able to have fun, so be it. Every single game I have ever played online I have done it. BF1942, BF2, BF3, BF4, etc etc etc, all the online shooters, and more. I am used to it. I may not be at 100% performance, but I have fun.

Please DICE, you're our only hope.

Hopefully,

HadesMCV

+1 to adding a robust server browser. Even better if it's a unified browser for AOW/Portal games.

In the meantime, you could use a VPN to hop regions. I also have to use a VPN for 2042 because despite my usual matchmaking region being SEAs, this specific game for some reason puts me on MENA servers, which are as dead as South African servers. Thankfully, VPN works fine.

@Marshennn Thanks for the tip. I have actually thought of doing that, just to play it, but my main issue with using a VPN is that I also stream to Twitch on the regular, and I am not sure if my pc/internet connection can handle the game, the streaming, and all of that with VPN. I am planning to test though.
  • If you're on PC/ PS5/new XBOX and if you have crossplay enabled, you should be able to find active south african servers on Portal, which become more populated towards evening.

  • Bumping this topic again, being a bit too hopeful maybe but eh, worth a shot. The game is fun after all. Just wish I could play Hazard Zone.

  • Player from the middle east here, and I got similar problems. The only mode that's populated in AOW is the weekly conquest rotation. The rest are almost always empty. I primarily play on one portal server now at about 170 ping. And it is thankfully not hardcore or an xp farm.

I can't stress how important a server browser is. It allows people like us in other less populated regions to actually play the game. I can't understand why they are so reluctant to add a server browser. We paid for this game and we are entitled to be able to play it. Why would anyone pay for a game that is unplayable?

I got no hope tho. This post is gonna be ignored as well just like the thousands of other posts requesting for a server browser. It's like screaming into a void.

  • @HadesMCV I mean if they enabled full xp in solo/ co-op, or had 1 player to start servers in aow. This problem could be magically solved.
