Spotting XP vs Kill Assists

So since Season 2 started with the new map, ive noticed a big uptake in players just going ham with spotting on the new map.

They just lay in the grass as Casper with their spotting drone. And then just sit close to the ship as Paik with ammo crates and sensor grenades, spamming sensors and her spotting ability.

I had a game where 2 players both played Casper and had 0 Kills, 0 Deaths and over 100 kill assists.

Neither of them ever left outcap/homebase. Both of them got more XP than me and were above me in the leaderboard with my 80 Kills, and ~40 kill assists.

I had double the kills of the next highest player on my team (at about 40 kills) and yet came 3rd on the leaderboard.

I feel like just spotting, should not get you a Kill assist. Especially when you're awarded for XP from the spotting itself.

You should have to do some sort of damage on the person or to a vehicle to get the assist...

Those actively attacking and engaging enemy should be more highly rewarded than those that lie in the grass at outcap and just deploy drones for 25 minutes.

if you want to make it more fair, buff the hell out of captured objective points or killing enemies within capture radius.

@JarskyPlays If I consider how many players have 80 kills during a match, I assume you were participating heavily of their activity, making your success to their success.
And just how high or low you are on the score board is no indicator who got more XP, because that is not related.
It is the "spot assist" that represents the team play part of the activity, not the "spot"

I completely agree with this. At the end of the day, those assists were massively beneficial to you and other people to know where the enemy is. And the XP gains are less than what the score shows, so it isn't like they were flying up the ranking if that even matters.

  • personally i couldn't care less about the current scoreboard.  i'm grinding exp for season 2 badge.  whatever gets me exp efficiently is what i'll do

  • @JarskyPlays Spotting is extremely beneficial to a team and is usually the difference between winning and losing. You probably don’t get as many kills without them. Also, it’s not particularly enjoyable to sit back and run a drone all game… just be glad you have them and don’t worry about the leaderboard. After all it’s not like there’s medals or ribbons for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd anymore…

I would get the vast majority of those kills without the spot spamming.

Why should those who dont contribute to the kill, get a kill assist? When theyve already received points/bonus for spotting?

I don't care if they want to lie in the grass the entire map, thats their choice to play like that.

But my point is they have no motiviation to actually put up any aggression against the enemy which in a Breakthrough mode is vital.

if they arent doing damage to a player or vehicle, they shouldnt be rewarded with the Kill Assist bonus on top of the spotting XP.

And perhaps there should be Ribbons introduced back into the game like BF4. It's those kind of rewards that make for rewarding gameplay and get people actually moving.

When you dont have rewards for meaningful contributions, then it just becomes a big sandbox.

Heres a game I just played..switching to Casper for 1/2 the round.

I just sat there with a drone, got 32k XP for this round just sitting on the drone for 3 out of 5 sectors, lying there doing nothing.

1st place didnt leave outcap once, and didnt switch from Casper drone once (i had to switch because we werent going to actually take the objective, we won this match by 30 tickets).  This is basically every match right now, using the Kill Assists to XP farm towards the Battle Pass.
