Squad comms idea

Hi! So playing with microphone and VOIP turned off you are left with very little communication options available. There are players who don't like to open up microphone and then there are players who communicate in party chat being outside of VOIP channel. How players can work as a squad and team if there isn't no communication between them? You don't know what squad members are currently thinking leaving you alienated. So here's simple idea for HUD element based communication ping system for quick informative decision making:

  • Soldier icon: Suspected enemy location
  • Arrow pointing downward icon: Next point of interest/Moving towards this position.
  • Tower icon: Defend this position. (Squad leader exclusive)
  • Group of soldier icon: Group up here. (Squad leader exclusive)
  • Two crossing sword icon: Attack this position. (Squad leader exclusive)

Pings could be turned off in the settings for those who don't want to see them and find them distracting. There should also be limit how many markers one can place at time so it doesn't get spam abused. Symbols should be explained in tutorials and in training area along with command rose, squad leadership, comms window and objective orders. Thanks for reading! 🙂

@Teal_Pipo_Fredo I do understand that you don't want to play with an open microphone. That is, why I always configure push-to-talk, but I play on PC and I don't know if this is an option on console.

Some of your described ping system are available in BFV.
Like the spotting enemy ping and your suggested squad leader exclusives, but the later are all objective based, like attack objective, defend objective.
It would be nice to have some way to communicate general points of interest outside of objectives.

Hi! What I was thinking is that these squad comms would be used as auxiliary comms when moving together between objectives. Objective orders are different from these and when squad leader wants to point out a power position which should be attacked/defended by a squad, you can't do it without talking.

Yes, this is improvement suggestion to Battlefield V version. Many games which are large on scale or tactical uses ping comms system because not everyone uses VOIP for whatever 'barrier' reason.

  • Agree to most @Teal_Pipo_Fredo ,

But reality is probably as you hint, many players are not either confident enough to join in proper squad/team communication.  Or they simply just don't care.

Matter of fact, even with no VoIP, then a simple ComRose goes a long way for those players who actually cares to coordinate and communicate on the basics between mates in squad and team.  Its both quick and not complicated.  And its even multilingual by design, where even more 'modern' VoIP is not covering anyway if players are not...  So keep the ComRose but do not over complicate it with too many options.  KISS is the way to go, even in a FPS battlefield game.  :o)

I play in Europe, where the number of different languages are pretty high and English/American is not a main language for most of the players.

In-game VOIP is never used in casual game-play, I have been playing a lot of BF (since BF3) and have never heard anyone use the in-game VOIP (literally never, during several thousands hours of gameplay).

But as others have said, the problem is keeping things simple. The ping-system is just point and click and should have no further input, which means it can either ping an enemy or a place on the map, adding additional options (clicks) would probably make them even less used.

But the comm-rose could be improved and the options you mentioned could be implemented there instead.

Thank you for responding! I try to remain optimistic with possibilities. Lack of comms is what has caused Battlefield to become chaotic mess and it may decrease enjoyment of players who want organised play. This idea is trying to break confidence and language barrier. Keeping it simple.

Kindness is underappreciated trait which is why some may not want to speak with strangers.

    Good idea!

I would like to see Dice do something with Coms in game. Much prefer an open mic - its supposed to be a team game anyway. What about an automatic channel between tank crew or pilot and gunner?

So much  more fun when you can hear each other - hate Warzone but love playing quads when everyone is talking. Some great laughs sometimes.

I'd just love to bump into Stone Mountain online when he's doing this. I bet the rest of the squad were more engaged with team than if he wasn't there.

  • @Teal_Pipo_Fredo With the newer consoles they could, honestly I wish they would bring the arma 3 mic system in, I know it might not happen, its would be nice to see that.
