Personally I wrote off the amount I paid for the game because I know there's no hope of me getting a refund and I'm not forcing myself to play it just because I've spent money on it because I don't enjoy it at all. I'd much rather play BFV, BF1, Insurgency, or Squad to get my FPS fix and I play a fair amount of Assetto Corsa Competizione as well so I've got enough to keep me busy rather than waste time playing a game I don't like.
Buying games on release is always a gamble and always has been, it's worse now that everything is a digital download nowadays because back in the day if you bought a game and didn't like it you could just sell the disc to someone else. It's a real shame these didital stores don't offer us the ability to sell our digital copies to eachother but that's just the way it is. The difference this time is the fact that the BF franchise has almost always stuck to the same tried and tested format that evolved over time into the product that people actually want (yes it's had its fair share of hiccups but always ends up back with the core format) so you could pre order it with some confidence with what you were actually getting. 2042 is so far off the mark in so many aspects that it's just not a BF game and never will be (imo)
TL:DR Pre ordering or buying games on release is always a gamble, yes I'd like my money back but you win some and you lose some, I've had every BF since BC2 (except Hardline) and I've had many many hours enjoyment out of them but 2042 just isn't for me, just like Hardline wasn't, fortunately Hardline was advertised correctly so I knew ahead of time that I wouldn't like it so didn't pre order or buy it, 2042 on the other hand is, well, ya know...
