It's the only thing stopping the 'nade' spam!
@JediMastaWyn Is that refering to breakthrough? Because I have yet to see issues with nade spam in this game and I only really play rush or conquest. But it's those gamemodes where the APS is just completly overtuned.
Nade spam if it's a serious issue should be dealt with at the source, reduce nade spam and APS-36 can be tuned down? But if it's really about breakthrough it's the nature of the gamemode too many people focused in a small area ofc it's chaos, but that shouldn't dicate the balance of the rest of the game.
- Ghostrider00673 years agoSeasoned Adventurer@doubleome It's not just in breakthrough. It is map and control point dependent and the play mode doesn't really matter.

It's just the unlimited nature of the thing. Why can't it just have some charges and a feedback for the Irish that placed it to know when to replace it or recharge it or something. Make it a little more engaging to use. Also punish those that just place and forget instead of engaging with it.
Even Boris has to sit near it's turret range to get the full effect, that differentiates the game between players and how effectively they play it.
They could easially do something to keep it's effectiveness just add that little engement so negligent players are punished, or that it can be overwhelmed at least.
Not have someone park their MAV, place a APS and just sit in the MAV 24/7. At least with some changes it forces him to exit once in a while placing him in vurnerable position for a little while.

Nade spam can happen in any contested area! When you have scatter grenades able to split into a half dozen, thrown from more than one source, XM3 burst rifles from more than one source both on a cooldown timer not ammo pool. RPG's, Then throw in the rest of the ordinance flying at you. APS is the only viable counter.
Beside doesn't an EMP grenade scramble the APS?

@JediMastaWyn Think that's the difference I never seem to get in those situations or rarely, can even count the times I got killed by the airburst on one hand still. The gamemodes and situations I encounter the APS it's just overtuned, while from your perspective it might seem to be the only option. And when I do get in these situations it was clear I just overstayed my welcome or was positioned really poorly.
But as I said they don't need to remove it, people go so defensive over this thing. They can still keep it's effectiveness and viability but with some slight tweaks.
Even if it's more clear there is an APS placed or tells you when your explosives disappear would be a welcome change.

APS is the only thing that was offsetting the explosive spam in 2042.
From the tanker PoV, it is the only thing that can really save them from being vaporized when everyone end their mother had a launcher ready.
From an infantry PoV it keeps corridor fights from being too frustrating.
I do not think it would be bad to have a way to tell that your projectiles were neutralised though.

In my experience not. You may have a chance to disable it when there is a wall between the APS and the grenades impact point, but my impression is, that the APS ignores most obstacles and line of sight requirements. I believe Zains Airburst grenades can take it out with their splash damage, when they explode before entering the APS activation range. But you need more than one hit.
- 3 years ago@kregora I may need to re test, but one of my go to set ups was Zain + EMP grenade. If the airbursts failed and I saw the rounds destroyed by the Sentinel I would dash a EMP grenade! Then repeat the airburst assault.
I'm sure I have a video of this somewhere.
