Your attack forced the target to use their flares.
This makes them an easy target for your own teams aircraft.

Aircraft being the only effective counter for aircraft is pretty terrible, dude. Especially for things like Breakthrough where one side has access to aircraft for much of the match while the other doesn't. It's also the only "class" (ground vehicles, infantry, air vehicles) where its primary counter is itself. This is not true for infantry or ground vehicles.

It is true but this is the current meta options if the helicopter flies low to have easy access to cover out of bounds. It is still one helicopter vs up to 32 people bellow.
Even a good pilot will actually break in a sweat if they are often pursued by TGM missiles while they try to engage someone or flee.
Personally I would like to see the Javelin make a debut in 2042 AoW modes. The top down laser attack was pretty good for attacking vehicles behind obstacles if someone soflamed them.
In any case the game is balanced mainly around Conquest where there are less places for helicopters to hide due to a more universal map access. Breakthrough is very hard to balance due to the asymetry

The problem I have with the AA gadget weapon is that it only seems to work sometimes. I played a Breakthrough on Renewal and shot down three choppers, I could see they'd already fired their chaff, so I timed my shot to fire after it completed. All good.
Today I played Breakthrough on Orbital, totally different story; I'd target the chopper by aiming the AA, but nothing happened, no lock on, no audio cue, it was just me looking down the barrel at the chopper, which in the meantime is oblivious to what I'm trying to do so just carried on bombing and shooting. This happens (for me) so regularly that it has to be a gadget glitch, where the game isn't picking up the fact that you're aiming at an air vehicle.
The flare does go on a bit too long though, just when you think it's done, another couple fire off. I so agree that a single player shouldn't be able to take down chopper after chopper (unless the pilot isn't doing a good job) but at the same time, the AA targeting can take an age, and everything from trees to other soldiers in the way causes it to reset, on top of the fact the sometimes it just won't target the enemy vehicle at all. The AA should be twofold, destroying enemy aircraft but also acting as a deterrent, so chopper pilots are kept on their toes.
This is what bugs me so much about the chopper that can drop bombs while in stealth, it's pretty much indestructible as nothing can lock on to it.
- 3 years ago@UP_Hawxxeye How tho if flares active uptime takes so long? Sure there is a short window of vulnerability after that, but they'll dip below radar or behind cover to re-appear again in a jiffy, back to farming inf after theyve dealt with the lesser pilots. The miniguns on the NB wreck everything that flies. It's too hard to beat a main-player camping the NB.
