It's a real shame they took so long to get Battlefield 5 good. Folk aren't going to wait around for 8 months for a product that should be working day one to get fixed. I sincerely hope they won't take that long to get 2042 into a good place because other games are starting to creep in on that large scale sandbox gameplay and Dice Sweden can't afford to ignore the competition any more. They can't afford 3 flopped games in a row.

You are right. I am no BFV fanboy. I hated it to begin with. I wanted a modern shooter. I had been playing BF4 since 2013. I more or less skipped BF1. You can only play so many rounds of Metro ya know. So, I begrudgingly played BFV. Over time I grew to like it as a filler until a modern Battlefield came back.
Playing BFV through those years you lived through all the tweaks trying to get it right. Sadly, they seemed to finally get it right 2 years in when they stopped development.
This thing they call BF2042 is so far from any Battlefield I know that I don't think they want it to be anything like previous BFs. It feels like it belongs in an arcade.
Getting back to my point. They cut development on BFV a year early to assure the next BF was not released in the same state. Here just back in February of this year they claimed they were way ahead of schedule.
