Sundance Nerfs and it's impact on Mastery (Concern)

Hello there;

I am here to discuss the recent nerfs of Sundance's grenades. First nerf was a delayed detonation to give people a chance to get away. This is of course acceptable. It was only a soft nerf.

But it is concerning to me that DICE then decides to nerf her further by giving her 1 grenade instead of two!  

Nevermind the fact that she has two choice of grenade so it makes no sense that she only has one to throw all of a sudden. Secondly it makes her Mastery challenge even more of a nightmare to achieve. On top of this, Irish's defense system already hard counters explosive spam.  It has been tested and it destroyed every grenade with no exceptions and no limits to how many are thrown. And he even gets two of these available to him.  So good luck getting the kills for the Mastery. 

If you are unwilling to restore her grenades to two; then at least lower the Mastery kill requirements. Getting 1200 players killed with only one grenade is simply too much compared to how easy it is to get Falck Mastery as an example. In that case you  need to revive OR heal. So make the Mastery requirements for Sundance into damage done or kills with nades.

Or give Irish's defense system a limit to how many grenades it can destroy at any one time. I think Irish should be invaluable on defense since it is his role. But getting rid of one Sundance's best offensive tools makes her a weak Assault character. She is neither anti vehicle or anti infantry at this point. The homing grenade does abysmal damage to vehicles and doesn't lock on half of the time because of counter measures. And even if they do hit it is nulified by instant repairs. 

I hope you will take these things into consideration. Sundance has been the most nerfed Specialist in the game. First EMP grenades are removed. Then the grenade counter is lowered twice and one of the nades have their effectivity reduced. On top of this the scatter grenade is only mostly useful in CQC. Since 85% of the maps are usually on open terrain it makes them redundant in most scenarios. They are more of a tool to flush people out of cover. But the problem then is; how are you going to ever complete your Mastery.

    This is true, but it doesn't make up for the fact that she is completely hard countered by Irish. Boris really doesn't have a hard counter anymore outside of EMP nades maybe, but those are not available to Sundance anymore. Maybe it is to give vehicles a chance. But c'mon Lis the ENGINEER class has more offensive capability than Sundance at this point.

    The nerf definitely slows it down, but the bigger nerf was removing Exposure BT 24/7. That was the Sundance farm. With that now only in rotation, you are lucky to get it once a day.

    Another issue with Sundance right now is sometimes the wrong grenade is depicted in the menu. It looks like the Scatter grenade but really is the Anti-Armor grenade in hand.

    I don't like Sundance, but in my effort to T1 all the specialist, it is down to her, Dozer and Lis for me. I have been grinding her for 2 weeks and only at 500 of the 1200 kills required.

    I feel this is a ridiculous T1 requirement. It is extremely difficult to get kills in a non-CQB situation, and Irish is an excellent counter in CQB. 1 Irish can effectively quash 10 Sundance (which BTW is how I finally managed to T1 Irish). Now, they have 1/2'd they amount of grenades she gets, I am going to be trying to get to T1 until S2.

    The T1 should be changed to Kills, OR ASSISTS, with her specialty grenades, and increase the requirement to 2000.

    Lis should also have her T1 requirement changed to Kills, OR ASSISTS, with her rocket. It would be different if her rocket could one shot vehicles, but it doesn't. I have to wait until someone else damages a vehicle and then try and finish it off, because my 2 rockets don't do anything except give someone else the kill shot and I get no credit for it towards my T1.

    Dozer needs to have his T1 changed to 25000 Damage inflicted and deflected or something. 800 melee kills is insane.

    @Noxynoxnox So it still says "Kills and Assists with Sundance's Smart Explosives."
    The removal of the EMP grenade did nothing to make this goal any harder, because till the removal there we no assists for disrupted enemies. And the occasion, that you killed someone or destroyed a vehicle is so rare, that it doesn't actually count.

    So for me Sundace's task become viable, once the Anti-Armor grenade become viable.
    So now we get vehicle assists, which includes the kills involved.
    So sure its nice, when you get kills with sundance, but currently there exists a synergy between the two anti-vehicle specialists, Sundance and Lis.
    Use your anti-armor grenades to mark targets for all the Lis players.
    If Lis kills the vehicle, you are fine, if you kill the vehicle, you are fine as well.


  • @kregora Really? I was sure that it said only kills when I wrote this post, but I could be wrong. I just went and double checked you are right that is says Assists. In that case I don't have that much of a problem with it. It definitely became harder to do with the reduction of nades, but if assists count that doesn't bother me.
    As for the EMP grenade removal, you are right, it did nothing at all. I'm actually glad they removed it because it was getting tiresom scrolling through 3 nades or having to pull up the T menu all the time.

    And I agree, her vehicle grenade is pretty useless apart from baiting out flares.

    Nice suggestion about working together with a Lis. I haven't thought of this combo, I usually just go Lis + Repair tool in a chopper. I'll ask my friend to go Lis next time I play Sundance. 🙂
