Not that it is a popular fact, but aim assist adds on top of all the spotting mechanisms, because even if you are not spotted in-game or even visually by the player, if you are within range and in the FoV of the player using aim assist and they fire, you will be hit and thus spotted. This includes through partial smoke and vegetation.
