What The Finals does do better than Battlefield 2042 and this entire series in general is providing fast paced objective game modes that people play with urgency.
Urgency to use teamwork and to win the game modes are the biggest things that are missing from Battleield that The Finals has been structured around. It is the main reason why that game is currently more fun than Battlefield 2042.
"How do you want this back in Battlefield?"
Where have you got that from? The main point here is the decline in quality of this game in every single department. "Goofy" belongs in the finals where it fits the theme, not in a BF game like this one.
Battlefield 2042 was not supposed to be like the rest of thegames in the series, and The Finals shows me that the Embark studios developers were also probably tired of making Battlefield games the way that they were as well. Which is why their new game is so different.
I also dislike when people use the popularity of one shooter to take cheap shots at another.
- VOLBANKER_PC2 years agoSeasoned Ace@Skill4Reel Their new game is most likely so different from Battlefield because they are contract bound not to develop a shooter similar to Battlefield for X years after leaving DICE.

Everybody focussing on Embark and The Finals, but for me some of the true ex Dice Battlefield vets are also at another studio called TTK Games
They just celebrated their first anniversary and have to launch their first game yet.

@I_DYN4MO_IThat came from you in your original post not being specific about what you like more about The Finals than Battlefield 2042. Instead you used generic gamer terms like better "detail & polish."

I also dislike when people use the popularity of one shooter to take cheap shots at another. So from the title "The ex DICE veterans are a huge loss to this series." and the clues "detail & polish", you've managed to interpret that as me wanting BF2042 to be a "colourful hero shooter"
Well to avoid confusion and you being offended by "cheap shots" due to a popular game that's actually very relevant in this particular context, as it's just been released so we can now play it, and has been developed by same developers that worked on past BF games, lets just compare 2042 to BF1 instead.
In fact lets go a step further and compare 2042 to BF4. BF4 is over a decade old and still has more polish and detail than 2042. Lets compare 2 urban maps. Siege of Shanghai and Kaleidoscope. Which do you think has the most detail? Which map has the better flow, better compartmentalization, looks the more war torn, has more destruction / levolution?
In 2042 they can't even get a character skin to stay applied or a Liz rocket to register. It took them a year to fix the SFAR aim down sight bug. The drop off in quality since these devs left is undeniable. Obviously cheap servers don't do it any favours and the higher ups making bizarre decisions all over the place. Maybe if we kept these old devs and fired the higher ups who have directed this mess in their board meetings we'd have a decent game.

The Frostbite engine shouldn't even be used as a "get-out-of-jail" card, as the 'Plants vs. Zombies' franchise has always used Frostbite and it is a peach to play (I awkwardly confess I have played it and it was a ton of fun). PopCap mastered it and DICE couldn't on '2042'...? When one has interns to develop a game + management at a loss we get '2042', simply. - 2 years ago

You see. This is the kind of disingenuous feedback that is unfortunately far too common on these forums. Ten years of Battlefield 4 and it is great now, but you won't mention the improvements that were made to Battlefield 2042 in two years. You also will not talk about quality issues that were in both Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 during their releases and how long it took both of those games to get cleaned up. Oh, and these DICE veterans that you speak of were there for both of those game releases.
Everything that I've mentioned in my first response to this topic represents some of the biggest discussions that have taken place on these boards. Discussions that I have to believe lead the developers reworking the character models, all of the maps, and even force feeding the old class system into a game that was not originally designed for it. All of which I have always said was unnecessary. So you better believe that when I make comparisons to The Finals in response to people that have disliked Battlefield 2042 from the beginning, and continue to do so, that I am going to bring up all of these things. Oh, and here is another. I am curious how Battlefield fans that are playing The Finals are enjoying the server browser that is not in that game either that they've claimed they have to have.
At least Embarks' new game gets to be the game that they originally wanted it to be and won't go through years of unnecessary changed to please a mostly cynical player base.
@JOGAGATYA One of my issues with Battlefield over the years is that the game modes have been ruined by too much "sitting back." The fast paced nature of The Finals as it applies to aggressively playing the objectives is refreshing to me, and I wish that Battlefield was played the same way. Especially in the large scale game modes.
@Lady_One I will not argue any of your issues with Battlefield 2042. There are many. Maybe many of these things would have been a higher priority early on if the developers weren't wasting time redoing maps, characters, and the class system.

@Skill4ReelWhile OP does seem reluctant to actually specify something, I do believe the game lacks polish and I'll give you concrete examples for that. For me, lack of polish is when a game has a ton of small issues, so many that they do make a difference.
Picture the spawn screen.
Clickboxes are bigger than the actual boxes( 1 ), your selection will randomly change to something else for no reason( 2 ), even worse if it happens while triple clicking. Your 3 squadmates in the bottom left are clickable, but they can overlap spawnable things on the map, and then you can't select those by clicking( 3 ), nor can you pan away since that isn't a thing( 4 ). If there's a squadmate in combat next to a spawn beacon, these 2 clickables are not sorted( 5 ), many other such scenarios included, if you keep clicking you most likely can't select the beacon unless you move your mouse outside of the incorrectly sized clickbox of the squadmate. Spawn beacons will persist for at least a second on the map when they're destroyed( 6 ). The weapon select menu will have to load the gun icons in every single time( 7 ) after you die, or sometimes even after you merely open another menu. The pistol menu is still vertical and small despite the now massive amount of pistols(8).
Vehicles are selected on button release as opposed to button press when you spawn them in(9). This probably applies to other things but let's consider only this. The hind and nightbird share the same icon(10), and the stealth and attack helicopters also share their own same icon(11). The insertion beacon's 4 uses are not reflected on the map(12). On some maps the air transports will spawn outside of what is visible on the spawn screen, so you can't see they're there(13). There is no indication of how many of your vehicles are alive (or worse, stolen), you have to count and pray respectively(14). Vehicles have no indication of how many and which seats are occupied on the spawn screen(15). People frequently complain about spawning on low health vehicles and the spawn screen still does not show vehicle health(16), instead the Brawler (only the Brawler) gets a "you can't spawn on me!" state.
Nevermind more important details like showing a vehicle's loadout(17), or let me use mine. Same for the health of teammates, or alternatively a bar showing how long till the 'in combat' status runs out(18). Height perception on the map is bad, it can be hard to tell if a teammate is on top of a skyscraper or in its shadow(19). There is no indication for certain actions a teammate is doing that prevent spawning until you try to spawn, like parachuting, ziplining, or there not being enough space(20). Your own mines are not visible on the map(21). The pedestrian icon for a full Brawler has been broken since the last few updates(22). And lastly... There is nothing showing you what your squadmate is doing when you're about to spawn on them(23).
4, 6, 10, 11, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 23 are issues which did not exist in past BF games (directly or indirectly, e.g. if you have a 3p view of a squadmate in BFV - 23 - you can see they're parachuting - 20). Maybe also 15.
2042 has turned old things into issues and introduced its own new issues, it is less polished than old BF games.
All of those are just with the spawn screen. Your gameplay starts here and you can't see the transport helicopter and the Brawler looks weird. I can list many, many more. Objective issues with guns like how the M44 needs to [chicken, swear word, pull hammer back] the first time it's pulled out every life, the NTW-50 needs to recock if you open the + menu while cocking even if it finishes and you don't do anything, thermal sights causing a lag spike the first time you ADS with one in a match, issues with entire systems like laser designation that is outright broken, objective design issues (not 'I don't like specialists') where certain vehicles (Bolte) or seats (spotter) simply have no role, even if caused by otherwise good updates they're still issues.
