Once you have movement mechanics that extend into 3D space, it changes the entire dynamics of the game. Both Mackay and Sundance have broken that to the core.
DICE should've just went all in on that design and called this Battlefield: The Specialists and made them the focal point of game modes, map designs, etc. The problem is, they did neither. So you have maps designed around BR/HZ, specialists designed for Apex, and game modes that don't fit the maps, played with Specialists who break the modes.
Breakthrough used to be a very strategic mode where there was a clear front to the battle as you inched your way forward point to point. Now with Mackay and Sundance, the front is 360 degrees including above you.
I think I have been killed from behind or above more in this title, than all other titles combined (and I have played them all), and it is not even close. That should be a huge red flag for developers. If you die mostly to one weapon, it's probably OP, if you keep dying a certain way (like at spawn points, from behind, etc) it probably needs to be addressed. However, there is nothing they can do in this title to prevent Mackay or Sundance from completely breaking the game and making it into 32 individual TDMs.

It's very simple, nothing that was a result of 2042 should ever be in a Battlefield game ever again, failed experiment if you ask me
Back to basics and start with a stable multiplayer experience before even trying something new or adding anything new to the game

This dev group is different. They are not BF vets themselves. They play RPGs and Plants vs Zombies. The same group that thought BF2042 was a great idea are working on the next title.
To me there was nothing wrong with an updated engine with new locations to fight at with some different factions, some new weapons, gadgets and vehicles, and maybe a new game mode or two, but EVERYTHING ELSE that was in a previous game would be there. So at worst it was a BF4 reskin.
- ATFGunr2 years agoLegend@Adamonic What you’re saying, and I’m thinking it too, is they overthought the whole game. Realistically games in a series don’t need a whole overhaul. New graphics & new maps are all a series needs. CoD gets it. While I don’t like their game I recognize that they give their players what they want and have a good financial success with it. BF followed that at first, until they tried to put a little something for everyone in the game, and ended up with this mess. It’s not a good hero shooter, it’s not a good battle royale game, it’s not a good Tarkov game, and sadly it’s not a good BF game. Some of the changes since release have brought it back towards its roots a little, a little. They tried way too hard. A reskin of V would have been fine. Portal was a great idea, just needs way more maps. Hazard Zone is fine as you don’t have to play it but if you want to you can. AOW has been a hot mess and continues to be.
