Actually I think that it was a pilot that first brought up this bug/issue all the way back in December 2021.
Nightbird Unaffected by AA Missiles - Answer HQ (ea.com)
This is an issue that is affective the most the Pilot vs pilot gameplay where the one who knows how to exploit it gets to avoid the enemy IR missiles without using the flares which puts them at a tremendous advantage.
This issue generally does not affect the ground to air missiles as far as I remember
- Col_Larsen3 years agoNew Ace@UP_Hawxxeye why the heck has this not been fixed then ??? 2021 is waay back ! No wonder stingers suck ! DICE WTF !
- UP_Hawxxeye3 years agoLegend
@Col_LarsenThis should not be affecting stingers. It was an issue that made Air to Air missiles loop around the small helicopters and self-destruct harmlessly.
As about why it was not fixed yet.... your guess is as good as mine

This bug isn't specific to Nightbird. In the inital release notes for the recently added "Below Radar" feature, it is NOT supposed to allow pilots to break lock by dipping below radar altitude. However, this is not how it is behaving and pilots are exploiting it to break lock.
@Col_LarsenDude, so there's the flarespam ánd the avoid-the-missile-bug ánd the current bug making the missile go straight, ánd the new class system making ammo (more rockets) rare.
That's like a 4-layered EZ cake for the players who main airvehicles.- @DigitalHype Not sure where you are seeing that. The notes say that it doesn't effect missiles that have already launched. Doesn't seem to say anything about not breaking locks.
"Flying below 30 meters from the ground will now ensure that you’re immune to lock-ons from Vehicle-based weaponry.
We are also reducing the height limits for Helicopters. Previously we have seen some instances of pilots flying high and unleashing havoc with very little response as lock-on launchers were unable to reach that high. This tweak helps bring those helicopters down to the ground (literally).
This change does not currently affect Jets, or missiles that are already fired. We will continue to review your feedback in the meantime." - DigitalHype3 years agoSeasoned Ace
@rainkloudGoing below radar (<30m) shouldn't cause a missle which already locked and has been fired before the aircraft was below radar to lose it's target lock. It is only supposed to prevent the enemy from establishing lock.
I have had this with multiple helicopters... It's a real issue
@DigitalHypeSo I just tested it and it's COMPLETELY BROKEN. It's not supposed to effect Stingers but anything I fired at below 30m the missile just went straight (no tracking) as Task_and_Purpose mentioned. It's not supposed to break the lock of vehicles missiles already fired and it absolutely does. This isn't like 25, 50 or 75% of the time. It was 100% of the time I tested. What absolute garbage this is. How do you not test something like this?
I'll do a video on it. Was it broken in 3.2 as well?
- @S3SSioN_SoL I switched to using the AA launcher in a match yesterday to try and take down the Bird that was demolishing my team…….
The missile wouldn’t track it at all, got killed by it and tried again. Nope… missile flew right past it and it killed me again like a sitting duck.
I just quit the match because there was no stopping it with useless gadgets and a useless team letting that thing reign supreme.
