The numbers are in.... Battefield 2042 is losing the war....
Halo it seems will win the war.
It's a damn shame and a shambles. BF2042 could have been great, should have been great in fact! Instead, it's been plagued with bugs & glitches from the get go, and missing good QOL features that have been in previous titles. The long term monetization factor of other live service games got to EA and they truly dug their claws into the DICE which has steered the Battlefield franchise into an huge iceberg and is sinking slowly into the depths. Doesn't look good for DICE at all.
Having played 35+ hours of BF2042 and played the Battlefield franchise since BC2 (which was the game that actually made me stop playing other FPSs, cos I used to be a COD player), I feel I can put thoughts in writing.
The weapons and vehicles are wildly unbalanced. The specialists are very individualistic with cringe end game lines (I've actually started to mute the tv at the beginning and end of matches due to this fact as there isn't a way to skip it!). Angel and Falk are the only ones that "team" based choices since they can both supply and heal with there abilities/traits.
There practically isn't much team play, even squad play I've noticed. Players have a choice between medic/ammo crates & repair tools and M5/AA in AOW/Breakthrough. The majority of players will choose the latter due to there being a lot of vehicles around. Half the time I'm in vehicles, I've only been repaired twice in the whole time I be played. If I jump on BF4, my vehicle would get healed with 10 minutes of gameplay, depending on how quickly I get hit of course.
AOW and Breakthrough feel like they were after thoughts with the way they're designed, huge but empty where you have to run upto 3-4 minutes from when you enter the match to the nearest objective. No big levolution events that change the map. Sure, the sandstorm on Hourglass with a tornado looks cool but doesn't really do anything to the map as such. The tornado doesn't destroy anything in its path, which is odd considering it is a highly destructive force of nature.
Being on 128 player maps and not having the ability to change your squad in game and continue with that squad into the next map, completely boggles my mind. There has been a couple of times where I've ended up with a good squad but once the match ends, they'll be gone forever. Means that you're not able to form any bonds with other players all because of the matchmaking, which is a truly bad decision for a 128 player squad based game.
Seems to me that they made Hazard Zone with the Specialists in mind. Then they added AOW & Breakthrough as an afterthought. And had devs working on Portal as a side project. The matchmaking, the lack of weapons and vehicles in the base game, the lack of a server browser in AOW/Breakthrough, and no TDM/FFA/Conquest small maps/Rush in the base game really does make me think they wanted a Battle Royale type of game to compete with Warzone/Apex and Fortnite.
Anyways, all this is just like, my opinion, man.
