@trip1ex Good points.
1. I do like the end of round highlights screen on BF1 along with the scoreboard. It has some cool information.
I also liked to check the scoreboard from time to time to see what type of classes the team is using. If it was predominantly snipers on an attacking team then I was pretty much out of there.
2. It can be helpful to look for cheaters as well and console doesn't have in game chat so the scoreboard could be a better indicator. Sometimes the player may just be an unbelievable player but other times some kills look questionable. In that case you could report them and let EA/DICE sort it out.
With no scoreboard it would be pretty difficult to see who's questionable without having their immediate stats on screen ALONG with seeing how they're playing in game.
3. BF4 didn't show ping limits and that game was a major success. I liked the pings on the scoreboard in BF1 because you could see if some players were really dragging the server down. Remember some of those players with greater than 500 or 600 ping consistently? Yikes!
Nowadays it's pretty common on BF1 to have half of EACH team with greater than 100 pings with some sprinkling of over 200 as well.
It at least helped to see if maybe you should just leave a server if it was playing lousy due to pings.
Your last point is absolutely correct. Your role on the battlefield shouldn't be limited to looking at the scoreboard for your K/D and points. It should be based on what your team needs and how you can help win the objective game mode you're playing.
Hopefully they'll give us some sort of scoreboard that can provide some useful info to players. We'll see in about a week.....
