The Question of Aim Assist
Okay, I'm finally putting this here, because I am really, really at a loss.   How powerful is the console aim assist? From my POV, it might as well be a legalised aimbot. Currently, I have to resort...
I came in this topic expecting to see exaggerations on both sides and I was not disappointed.
the fact you PC guys are looking at HS percentages proves you have no idea how AA works.
it is not some HS aim bot.
for every stat the PC guys find proving their point, the console guys do the same.
Call of Duty legal aimbot.
Finding the balance on that. It’s an interesting thing, because I wish it was a linear spectrum. You can see that a very highly skilled player on mouse and keyboard is fantastic compared to controller. Everybody else on a mouse and keyboard seems to be at a disadvantage statistically, is what we see.

they know about this and you cant turn off crossplay on PC for Warzone and Ground War.
Same happened on warzone now all you see are the top players playing with controller because the aim assist is so ridiculous.
There was nothing wrong with the aim assist they just didnt want to say they wanted more.
Even hip firing has lashings of aim assist looool, you can keep this junk console boys its all yours

Thanks for sharing the developer interview @Ne0tax.
It's amazing to hear game developers admit controller vs mouse statistics show that unless you're Stodeh with a mouse, you're going to get stomped on by controller players using aim assist and recoil reduction.
At least he was honest and admitted 'leveling the playing field' is unfair for mouse players according to their own internal statistics.
That's strange because 99.9% of games pc players are top at least 50 or 60 kills.
Turn crossplay off and pc players will find out how many pc players have aim assist software.
That's why crossplay is never going to be turned off.
With a higher pool of players EA/DICE know you might be lucky and only get pc cheaters everyother game.
@TwentyValve And yet 90% of the deaths I suffer from console players are headshots, regardless of rank. Funny that, isn't it?
@Adamonic I've noticed the gameplay feels heavily skewed toward console players again since 2.2. I just played a round where I did pretty well. Went on a coupled of streaks on Breakway Breakthrough, and we got to the last objectives. Cue three instant deaths to a rank 12 console player, who barely fired any shots and hit me in the head every single time. I went on a death streak and every single kill was to a console player, bar one. You simply cannot beat them in close combat, or you definitely cannot kill more than one. Doesn't matter whether they have an automatic or semi-automatic weapon, its lock on and hit no matter what.
Their number 2 player, with 48 kills, was a rank 12 XBox player. Same one auto locking me three times in a row. Up to that point the game felt like a good back and forth, but as soon as it goes close, its game over. You basically cannot win against console players in close quarters.
I am speculating here, but I feel like the netcode in terms of hit detection is just a lot poorer compared to other Battlefields. That might be an influence. How adding crossplay affected how DICE programmed for netcode is another consideration. This is, after all, the first Battlefield where we are playing cross platform.

Might as well throw this one back up there again. After that first kill at 4:47, look what happens. They fire at one player with 21 rounds in the mag. By the time they reach 15 in the mag, they've killed four people...when there are only three people visible. They only fire directly at one person, and somehow kill three others (one not even visible) by lazily drifting across them and firing into a wall.
I think its pretty good visual evidence of how ridiculous the console aim assist can be, assuming that is all they are using there. But it tallies with what I experience on the receiving end: dying to almost no shots, and also getting shot whilst out of line of sight.
@Moab23 @Adamonic @TwentyValve
TwentyValue is correct, the script devices on console controllers are becoming an issue in all games at the moment, ,not just BF 2042. I have seen the issues first hand in BF2042 TDM, as it is really obvious when you have smaller teams of 6 vs 6 or 12 vs 12. I don't even report it anymore as it is common, to be honest. This trash is sold on AMZN, and the reviews tell the full carnage being inflicted on the legit players...
So in truth the 98% of console players not using these "mods" are getting accused of "Aim Assist OP" accusations. From my personal experience, aim assist sucks on BF as I play on PC and Xbox Series X and have better aim accuracy on PC...
To counter the 2% who use these trash devices, I'd suggest playing portal in smaller groups as easy to spot and/or simply change to another server when the impossible keeps happening.
The other trick, which is what I do, is only play BF2042 for the first 3-4 weeks after release of a new season. That floods the servers with thousands of new players who play legit, to where you are not getting abused as often...
And to add to the issues, the cross-platform net code creates all kinds of WTH moments, basically is it like having a drunken referee which creates all kinds of issues depending on the ALAT, LAT, packet loss, and general connection quality of all other players. Which of course is more frequent when playing with 128 players in AOW versus only 16-32 players in Portal smaller game modes...
I get it, "Aim Assist" is an easy target for the "Weirdness" that occurs online in BF2042...but the truth is more complicated, and insidious...
I can't even begin to say how many times I have been one shot killed by a sniper playing on a console when Im at 100% health since this new patch, probably using aim assist. If they can use aim assist, than we should be able to use aimbots.
@TwentyValve Give me a break. The player shoots one guy a bunch of times and then nails the others while drifting over them, and scores two perfect headshots in the process. If I did that the shots would miss. That kind of kill wouldn't even work against bots if I drifted over a group. You can clearly see when the footage is slowed down that their red dot is staying absolutely fixed on the same point of the player they shoot, and is tracking with them.
@Moab23and there are a ton more videos like this. I am just on the receiving end. These are the types of rounds I play now. I have 84 assists with only 13 kills. They have 105 kills and only 7 deaths. Avancys with Aim Assist is an Aimbot. This guy was lasering everyone. I think he killed me at least 8 times. From any distance, if I was visible in their field of view, I died.
Right-Click and open in new tab to see the full pic:
The only issue with aim assit is pc players.
The numbers of players involved in bf2042 cheating is quite alarming and soon as its pc vs only pc then your beg for console players to comeback.
Most pc cheaters use dialed down settings and i reckon percentage wise it's not far off pc cheaters on warzone.
At least everyother game or sometimes everygame you get the pc player 60 or 70 kills to 0 deaths and some run round with a sniper like a shotgun.
@Kona_uk wrote:some run round with a sniper like a shotgun.
That's because it literally is
CQC rounds on the SWS is actually broken up close
Console and pc gamers should never have played together. It's nonsense. Crossplay is going to destroy the shooter on console and now also on PC.
@TwentyValve Yeah, I see you're devolving into the 'git gud' routine I see trolls ingame use when you point out someone is blatantly illegitimate. Would you like to try 'mad cos bad' as well? I mean its all the same copy paste responses trying to cover up the blatant problems people are experiencing. Clearly its just a made up issue, that's why I'm the only person mentioning it, right? Can't possibly be something amiss when someone runs around on foot and beats out vehicles with their score, in five consecutive matches, who tanks damage and does 90 and 180 degree spins that result in immediate headshots. Nah, no issue at all. All made up.
