- Anobix3 years agoSeasoned Ace@SithMetal71 The crazy part is that sometimes it works perfectly. I could be with my buddies and do a call out of hearing footsteps and around the corner comes a guy. And other times there's nothing. Sometimes vehicles give an audible alert as they are driving by and other times its almost silent.
Yeah, the audio in this game is hit or miss it seems in regard to locating enemies.
Sometimes it's decent and I can ascertain what direction the enemy is approaching from and other times they are either silent or the footfalls sound like they're coming from the complete opposite direction.
I've messed with my audio setting in-game and on my PC and even went and upgraded to a THX Surround Sound set of headphones and the problems still persist.

Vehicle sounds can be hit or miss at times but I'm not really finding it too difficult to locate enemies using a headset; might be time to recalibrate your settings. Visuals on the other hand, I find it almost worse than BFV when it comes to honing in on an enemy with my sights

Unfortunately the audio of Frostbite hasn't improved since BFV/BF1, which had the same problem of sounds sometimes working and sometimes not.
Sounds behind / above are some of the worst problems and getting shot in the back by silent infantry or vehicles happens way too often.
I've tried every possible in-game setting, tried stereo and different 3D audio systems (DTS, Atmos, Windows Sonic and Boom3D) and the problems are the same, some sound effects are just not played at all, no matter what setting or 'audio enhancement' I use. Also tried using both the motherboard audio and a hifi-dac, again no difference (except for the quality of the sound).
Dice needs to make BF-games fun and things like the "bad" audio can be really frustrating.

I'm on X Series using mid priced good quality wired over the ear headphones and my audio seems fine.
My headphones are not surround but I have surround selected in audio which seems the best overall setting for my setup.
If I'm in a tank I can even hear the slightest enemy movement in the foliage.
That has saved me many times.

I can hear others reasonably well with 3D headphones as a setting + headset.
But I still feel that the sounds from friendly players are too loud compared to the enemy sounds.

Haha, I love those tanks sneaking behind you :P
I agree, that there are problems, but I think it's on purpose. Game would be simply too loud, if you would hear like 20 (very loud) vehicles, 100 people shooting, numerous explosions, ambient sounds etc. Also it's a strain on servers, because you have to sync all of that between all players in the game.

@Boro666plIn reality vehicles, gunfire etc are very loud and at distances like on a BF-map things would become a total mess, Dice have to decide what sound you should be able to hear.
But having a Sundance land right behind you and shoot you in the back without making any sound at all or having a tank sneak up behind you and kill you is a joke.
Audio shouldn't really put stress on the servers, all actions have a "sound effect", which the client should be able to figure out by itself. The client already knows the position and actions of other players. - sk1lld3 years agoLegend
Had some issues with audio in all the Battlefields I remember playing. But the silent tanks from behind really rub me the wrong way. There has to be a way to fix this, just has to be.
Audio is not bad but players and tanks just appearing out of thin air is ridiculous
