@Echo6EchoI used to have a high end gaming rig, but game development was starting to outpace my ability/desire to update it.
So I bought a top-of-the-line laptop (not a gaming one) and a Xbox X. Happy with my decision.
The cost of upgrading a PC, as well as known issues with cheat software, convince me that it was the best solution.
I would bet that I am not alone in making the switch.
I feel like in the long run PC is cheaper. There’s no annual fee for online. You can get games cheaper in my experience. A mid tier PC will stay more current than at least two generations of consoles. Then there’s the proprietary hardware, not being able to use a mouse for all games, flight sticks, or whatever you’re into at the moment.
Even when I didn’t do any maintenance on my old rig, besides cleaning dust, it always ran games way better than the current consoles. You’d think just being designed for gaming it would be rock solid with software, but it’s the same with anything these days. There’s plenty of bugs and odd behaviors you’ll discover.
Finally, you can’t just alt tab and look things up in between rounds, or use a program leisurely in the background.
I really feel there’s no upside to console besides it being cheaper upfront. If gaming is your main hobby though, it’s one the better value hobbies to have. You don’t need to spend a ton to get a lot of use out of it.
There’s at least a dozen more reasons, but this already feels like more than anyone will care to read.
