From the recent leaks of COD Vanguard, and the extremely harsh SBMM within the game, I would definitely get 2042 over Vanguard. In addition, COD usually get’s it’s first sale in the first month or two, so if you wanted to pick that up then, that would be the best time. Hope this answers your question

I would consider infantry gameplay to be roughly equal, but that is me. I completely forgot about BF and COD’s main differences, which was vehicles. Yes, do put that into consideration for sure.
I dont believe anyone on a BF forum will recommend buying a COD-game.
I have 3 COD-games in my game-library... All obtained for free through the monthly PS subscription...
I must say... I was surprised by the (bad) quality of these games...
The movement is bad.. The weapons sounds horrible. Mapdesign is a city in Eastern Europe.
I played Warzone for 2hrs and uninstalled... Gameplay was slow and campy. I hate the waiting-lobbies.
But well...
Whatever tickles your fancy!
Why not purchase both? It's going to take several months before the games come out.
The games are very different from each other and it's like asking if I should buy Age of Empires 4 or Battlefield 2042?

As a rule of thumb I would say:
- Age of Empire 4 is your are on PC
- BF 2042 if your are on next-gen console
