Upcoming Irish nerf
Dice just discussed the upcoming update will bring changes to Irish. According to their data Irish is one of the least picked specialists in the game. So because of that they have decided to nerf him... * what?!

Do we know what the proposed nerf is?
Did DICE actually say/imply a nerf? Or did they just say 'changes'?
They'll nerf Irish.
But they wont nerf explosives.
Players complain about the explosive spam.
DICE is not addressing the explosive spam. Like DICE LA actually did during BF4 with the CTE initiatives.
What is wrong with DICE.
The explosive spam in this game is really a problem I think but the design philosophy of this game seems to be, to make everything more "easy".
If you look at the accuracy of the weapons, they are really easy to control the recoil even over long distances without bursting. Every vehicle needs explosive ammunition, just to make sure, that they have not to hit with their weapons, everything needs an area effect. Additional, more explosives have been introduced throughout the season.
So for everyone, it should be easy to kill the opponent, the tools are doing the work, not the player.
All this mindset just resulted in camping tanks (Thor or AA) with the trophy system. They were nearly invincible, so the problem is not Irish, it is the gameplay itself (or in this case the tanks) but the fastest and more easy solution was to nerf Irish, because nobody picked him for his abilities in the open, more for defending their own tanks. Nerfing the tanks would probably bring other problems, tanks too weak against infantry, or air would be superior...
I don't like the change and the explanation, he is one of the least picked character, so we nerf him, makes no sense, without giving him something else... But I can understand, why you maybe nerf him, there were situations, his ability was way too strong and gave too little options of counterplay, still it is disappointing, because nothing will be done, to increase his popularity, the only thing what it happening, everybody is running around with Falk, McKay or Boris (only because of rocket launcher), because all other specialists are just awfully bad in comparison.
That is no proper balancing but I think, Dice gave up on this front. Otherwise, there is no explanation for Rao, Boris, Casper, Angel, Crawford or Dozer without any love in the latest patches. All are just not competitive and / or boring and you have a huge disadvantage, if you pick any of them.

They are these "quality of life" changes. This isn't QoL. Maybe you could call some of the Dozer changes, QoL. Since they are doing work on mobility and fov with shield deployed. But it's still a stretch.
Irish changes are nothing about QoL though. it's a major redesign on how his specialist ability works, and ultimately a nerf. I think they are using QoL here because it seemed marketable and trendy.
So what's the nurf? Does anyone have any information on this supposed nurf?

They've basically added cooldowns on the Irish sentinel that make it inactive for well over half the time. And different sounds and flashes to indicate which mode its in. They didn't mention it in this link. But, there is also a boot-up delay of 1 second according to the designer comments on inside battlefield podcast.
"One of the key changes that will be taking place for Irish is a balancing pass to the intercepting capabilities of Irish’s APS-36 Shootdown Sentinel (Sentinel)..
Going forward, the Sentinel will now have a 5-second window from its first intercept to take down any additional projectiles it detects, such as Frag Grenades and Anti-Infantry Rockets from Specialists and Vehicles.
Once this initial intercept time has elapsed, the Sentinel will enter into a recharging state and will no longer be able to intercept any further projectiles for 7.5 seconds before being able to intercept projectiles once again."
