Veterans Far and Wide
So, as I was discussing in another topic by @carsono311 , do you all think it is a possibility that dev team was well aware that the gameplay mechanics of, for sake of argument I’ll say BF2042 proper...
@gruntbrews_vicv So, I’m not a VET from BF2 or 2142, had no PC at the time to play them, but I got into BF thanks to the first Bad Company (before I used to play only CoD) and I loved it and still love BC2 over every other BF I played, in part because of memories (my early 20s) and part because it was genuinely fun and an overall easy game without all those fancy features other games had, it just had destruction, hardcore mode, rush, war tapes and Vietnam, from time to time me and my best friends play it on backwards compatibility on Xbox, the problem is there are few servers and many times you encounter those 3-4 Gamertags that enter only to team kill and ruin matches (really, in a 10+ years old game? Those people should burn) otherwise you see always the same vets from BC2 and have a good time.
I liked BF3 more than BF4, but still they were both way way way better than BF1/V in my opinion, I like way more the clunky movements to the new flash’s like speed, especially in the beta of 2042. It can be a good game but not a Battlefield to me. Are they serious? Operators? Grappling? No classes, all weapons available to anyone, all gadgets too, unique gadgets I literally didn’t feel the need to use at all, vehicles not spawning on bases or flags, weapon accessories swappable anytime, sorry but I’d have accepted all of this if it was Titanfall 3 (I liked and played Titanfall 2 a lot) but this should have been a BF, not a mix of Apex, Warzone, Siege and whatever.
In 10 matches I didn’t see much teamplay apart from 2 teammates, we sticked together, give each other ammo or revived and captured objectives, but overall every other match the team play was non existent, where in BF3/4 even playing casual with other people you still helped each other out, whether for ammo, medikits or revives.
I saw WW3 soldier’s customization system, that would have been a nice alternative to operators, the class would’ve been clearly distinguishable but you could change your chest rig, plate carrier, pistol holster, pouches, mollee vest and so on but left the cap/gas mask for the engineer, the helmet for the support and so on, that would have been a nice add to customize your soldier but in the end you were one of many of the same but a little different. Right I forgot, this doesn’t bring monetization at all… I just wonder how much after the release before the maps start to be overflown by unicorn masked operators, gold and pink weapons, that’s one of the think that kills immersion for me…
At this point I really hope the Portal component will be really supported and updated frequently with BC2/BF3/BF4 contents until it’s like having those 3 games remastered (maps, weapons and vehicles), and I’m willing even to pay for it if they ask it (but I’ll never pay for the damn useless skins or seasons pass for really useless cosmetics) as far as it will be like playing on the old games but with remastered graphics and ability to create custom servers.
It may be because I’m getting old and the tastes of newer generations are much different, but it’s sure money and trends are a big part of why BF2042 turned out this way.
As for now, if Portal will really be what they promised, it will be the only reason for me to buy BF2042, because Hazard Zone is still not revealed.
