Veterans Far and Wide
So, as I was discussing in another topic by @carsono311 , do you all think it is a possibility that dev team was well aware that the gameplay mechanics of, for sake of argument I’ll say BF2042 proper...
Hi @gruntbrews_vicv ,
What is real bad is that the EA/DICE team appear trying to cater to everybody and in the process have become totally lost themselves!
The true BATTLEFIELD IDENTITY has been lost.
Aka there are none of the classic Battlefield signatures in the current beta gameplay.
It appears EA want to please all different tastes and preferences, and by trying this impossible task, they fail miserably to deliver to any of us really.
To stay in your line of thinking, the schizophrenic split is like this:
I wrote this before. I have mixed feelings about Portal.
Sure, it's nice to relive old experiences. But I've already had these experiences before and I generally don't enjoy buying remasters. Where's is the innovation? Why couldn't Battlefield 2042 just be an entirely new game which uses old features as a backbone?
Do we really enjoy playing Wake Island for the ten thousandth time and why can't they make new maps that are just as good?
Portal gives us a little bit of freedom but don't forget this freedom was a lot more in earlier games (think mod tools and server management tools that existed since the start of the Battlefield franchise).
People seem to have accepted that we will never get mods and the ability to host our own servers anymore and will settle down for the next best thing. I completely disagree with that mindset and I wish more people did. In fact, people seem to embrace that we get a slightly bit more impact on customization and completely seem to have forgotten that there was WAY more freedom in older versions of the game.
I have yet to play the beta but if 2042 isn't going to live up to my expectations, I don't think I will even bother buying the game and completely skip Portal. There are plenty of other games I like and maybe it's just time I say this franchise goodbye.
