Visual Alert for G-84 TGM, I’m Deaf

Hello EA and the Battlefield 2042 Development Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I’d like to respectfully bring forward an accessibility concern related to Battlefield 2042. To provide some context, I’d like to briefly introduce myself.

I’m completely deaf due to a condition called Genetic Progressive Sensorineural Hearing Loss, which led to total hearing loss when I was 12. I’m now 26 and live a full and active life. Being deaf doesn’t hold me back, but it does come with certain challenges, especially in communication, since most people don’t use sign language.

Battlefield 2042 is my favorite game. I especially enjoy flying jets like the F-35 and piloting helicopters such as the Nightbird. However, there’s one specific gameplay mechanic that presents a serious issue for me as a deaf player.

The Specialist Lis has a manually guided missile, the G-84 TGM, which can be fired repeatedly with a cooldown between shots. When I can see the missile coming, thanks to its glowing trail, I can often evade it. But when it’s outside my field of view, I get no warning at all. My hearing friends told me there’s a distinct sound cue that alerts players to an incoming TGM, but since I can’t hear it, I’m frequently taken out without any indication that I was being targeted.

This is especially frustrating when the missile is coming from behind or when I’m focused on flying and engaging enemies. Unlike other threats, such as lock-on missiles like the Stinger, which trigger a visual warning on the HUD—the TGM doesn’t provide any visual alert. This means I have no opportunity to react, even though hearing players do.

When multiple players use Lis to target me, I’m often left defenseless in the air. If I could hear, I’d at least have a fighting chance. As it stands, the TGM gives hearing players a significant advantage over deaf players, simply because of the lack of visual cues.

So I kindly ask: would it be possible to add a visual HUD indicator when a G-84 TGM is approaching, or when it’s been fired in your direction? Even a small visual cue, similar to what’s already used for lock-on weapons—would make a huge difference. Alternatively, adjusting the damage to require two hits to down aircraft could be another option worth considering.

I’m part of a small Discord group of deaf Battlefield players, and we’ve all faced this same issue. While we may be a minority, I believe many players with hearing loss would benefit from improvements like this—both in Battlefield 2042 and in future titles.

To be clear, this isn’t a complaint. I love Battlefield and truly appreciate the incredible work your team puts into the game. I’m simply hoping it can become even more inclusive for all players.

Thank you very much for your time and for considering this request,

  • Hi VelvetSky98 ,

I support my deaf BF brothers and sisters in having a visual que of some type. Maybe all of you in your Discord group can send in a request for this. Even get the others to post here and on the BF subreddit. Get your message out there. If enough ask for this feature, they just might consider it.

Best of luck to you going forward. With this game, and in life!

  • I fully understand and sympathize with your request.

The only thing is that it might be difficult to implement due to the nature of the TGM. As it is a player controlled missile when does it qualify as heading in your direction? For example I sometimes use them to counter snipers where I fire them straight up into the sky to land them on campers. After launch it still could go anywhere.

It should be possible though, and that’s for the devs to solve. I recall CoD had a specific trait that would give you a clue when someone was looking/aiming at you, I believe it was called high alert. Something similar should be possible when a Lis player is looking at you when having launched the missile.

I play mostly engineer, and I have killed many snipers with the TGM. That's just as satisfying to me as taking out a chopper or jet.  In fact, I make it a priority to take them out. 😁

Yes, definitely. Maybe a visual alert when an enemy TGM is fired nearby, within the maximum range at which the enemy can hit you, in this case.

Wow, I had never thought about that, but really, only someone with hearing will be able to know that a TGM missile is on its way, if they can't see it, of course.
