In the past we had our servers (our clan had 2 back in the day) we used to recruit new players. Having no community servers anymore voice chat might be the (only?) way to get new members for our clan/gaming community.
Portal 'servers' don't count until we can have persistent server instances -- and if the game were any good we would not mind paying for them the same we payed before.
So, I am willing to turn on voice chat if this would offer opportunities to find new people that actually fit (our clan has a minimum age requirement of 25 years -- with the average player age now being above 40). So, we might need fresh blood. 😉
I would be willing to talk to strangers if Voice Chat can be used in parallel to TeamSpeak (that is required anyway for communication across squads and during map changes) and to find some players that speak German (even though we do indeed all speak decent English the clan is a German gaming community, so this excludes >90% of all players in our region I guess), with the right age (there go another 50% of the rest) and that try to PTFO (well, this leaves us with how many?).
OK, maybe Voice Chat is really not that important for recruiting after all. 😉
But proximity chat would be really good to communicate with strangers that you want to talk to, even if they are not in your squad. Squad only communication is not necessary (for me) as most of the players in my own squad will be in TeamSpeak anyway.
