We know EA are the driving force behind pushing an unfinished game early for the holiday launch Window. DICE know what the player base wants because it's been spammed all over the forums and the media constantly since launch so the only thing left to do now instead of keep repeating ourselves on the forum is simply to not play the game.
Let the numbers drop so EA are in a position where they have to say to DICE "just give them what they want to get the numbers up".
No amount of spamming the forum with the same threads will achieve anything else. EA care about numbers, that's it so hit them there if you want to see any kind of result. If EA keep seeing players online then they won't have the drive to change anything.
@ragnarok013 wrote: @CyberDymeThe problem in my mind is that they won't say "Hey we need to ensure this is more Battlefield like to recover!" but they'll double down and say "Battlefield is not with the times make it even more like Apex and Warzone!" making the phenomenon far worse for Battlefield players by moving even farther from the Battlefield experience that we want.
Have you seen the post by @FG44141 with the tweet from Tom Henderson? It looks like doubling down may be exactly what they're doing. I really don't think they care about why Battlefield was great in the first place and how they can use that template to further the franchise and make money. It seems that all of the people who were PASSIONATE about Battlefield are gone and are just replaced with people who can create the next best ATM machine. The trend chasing continues.....
Well I got through the day without playing 2042 which is an achievement for me this time of year with the lovely British weather if I don't have anywhere to be on a Saturday. I did hop into a Portal server quickly this morning as I have a couple of threads open in the Technical Issues part of the forum so needed to test something quickly (10 mins) but that was it. I spent my new found time getting some well needed practice in on Assetto Corsa Competizione which was a ton a fun.
Funny how Battlefield was always at the top of my list if I had some spare gaming time and wasn't sure what to do but with 2042 I don't seem to have the urge/drive to really want to play it. Aside from the millions of issues there's no point going on there and grinding for attachments because there really isn't any that I want or need. I mainly play aggressive sniper but the sniping in 2042 is nowhere near as satisfying as in previous games and they've messed up all the scopes anyway which has put me off even more. And then of course the millions of issues just put me off anyway as well.
Being caught up in the Battlefield bubble I kind of forgot how smoothly other games play, how good they look and how their Devs are extremely transparent and genuinely want to give the players what they want and improve the games while constantly giving updates on the progress of their road maps. My experiences with SQUAD, Insurgency and Assetto Corsa Competizione spring to mind immediately.
It really is such a shame that Battlefield has gotten so big that it's whole business model relies on it being a big fat cash-cow at all costs.
I hopped over to Halo Infinite after a couple of days. It's surprisingly fun and I'm not having to wait weeks for it to function at the most basic levels.
@TheGreasyBiscuit This is true but they do need to keep player numbers up to keep the money people happy, especially if they want continued investment to keep adding content to the game.
I turned off CODFIELD and downloaded Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order from EA Play last night. I'll try other games until my subscription runs out, then switch to Warzone, WWIII, or some other game.
I gave CODFIELD a honest shot but I got bored after a couple of weeks. The maps are too big and empty. I don't like how player movement feels or how mouse aiming feels. The lack of scoreboard also demotivates me to keep playing because I like beating the high score.
If I'm going to play CODFIELD then I should probably switch to the more polished version with better maps. I mean look at the amazing level design in this map compared to CODFIELD.
@ragnarok013 Ive left feedback, Ive also left ideas, Hell i made a thread for people to leave their ideas for the game, Granted some stuff is game changing, but still, they've just completely ignored everything, Ive suggested stuff like content and all that and just like you mentioned, a system where ROLES and Specialists co-exists, Obviously itd be thought into further but i came up with a idea where obviously they can have their gadget, but also what if the roles could also get those gadgets, but instead of them being unique they have unique passive abilities
For example lets use sundance Her gadget & passive ability would be that her wingsuit allows her to be 50% faster when in wingsuit, and less fall damage, now they could just make it like that, or they can make passive abilities for roles too, ones that people can choose from, like less fall damage percentage wise, They would also be able to choose ones like 20% faster on ziplinez/rappling - and MacKay could have like 50% faster ect ect..
But as i said, The devs here have done the same to the ideas just like they did to the PVE Community, Completely ignored our feedback and our ideas
Interesting closing remark you make though, because I think that EA have really shot themselves in their foot with their stubbornness of releasing the BF games for the holidays season no matter if the game is really ready or not for it. (except was probably BF1, though disclosure I did not like the era/gameplay myself but the quality level was decent).
But otherwise EA have been very poor in launching the BF games at proper level of quality. And it has typically taking them 9-12 months to fix the worst bugs/omissions to make the games stable/playable for most. But recent games of both BF1 and BFV were not the commercial success they were destined for. So disappointing for both the company leadership as well as to the shareholders.
It is therefore discouraging to observe that EA appear to repeat same immature behavior, turning off even more fans of the franchise with BF2042.
In another thread I posted the stats from the first week after release, but got flack for "Steam is not the biggest sales channel" and "Well, not all players are playing in week days..." etc. I understand that, but matter of fact is that we had more than 100,000 players that played BF2042 at launch via Steam, so sufficient player population to make the data statistically significant.
For a new launched game, we all expect to see a steady ramp up of more players buying it and coming online. So the average number of players should also increase, definitely until you start to saturate the potential buyer base with your game product. And due to the news starting to fade, then some will start to play less hours of the game on daily basis. But that should come first many months after release. Not just days like we see now for BF2042.
Some also commented that not all players plays on week days. Fair enough. So now we have the data from the first 2+ weeks after release, including 3 weekends. We do not observe huge fluctuation between weekdays and weekends. And the BF2042 game is already dropping down to be in same ball park as the old BFV game with total number of players playing the game.
This is far from satisfactory in so many ways.
And far from anywhere near any of the competing FPS games that are up in several hundreds of thousands of concurrent players.
So to your credit @RipGroove99 for starting this thread on this excellent subject, then the players do indeed appear to vote with their time, as they clearly are not staying around for long on BF2042. I wish it was different, as I eagerly was awaiting the next great classic BF game to take over from BF4 which I still play a lot, as tired quick of both BF1 and BFV.
The worry is if EA may again pull the plug prematurely on BF2042 as they did on BFV, just as it finally started to be properly fixed and complete...
