Weapon Rebalance Recommendation Directly For The Developers

My first multiplayer shooter game was BF1942. When it was brand new. I've owned every single PC battlefield release as well as every console release since bad company.

The 3.2 update is a step in the right direction. The weapon balance in the game is very much lacking. This includes vault weapons heavily. First ill start with Light Machine Guns.

What makes a light machine gun an LMG? Well, its big. Really big. It has a lot of recoil. It is very difficult to shoulder a LMG and have good accuracy. Most Light Machine Guns in the military (I am active duty in the real world) are on bipods. They need to be to be affective in combat. Traits like, slow movement speed, slow ADS speed, Long reloads, lack of accuracy when fired from hip or shoulder. These are all expected from the weapon class. In fact, when put into Bi-Pod mode the weapon becomes controllable. The weapon class also delivers a massive amount of devastating fire power when used properly.

Currently LMG guns are assault rifles in 2042. You just sacrifice a little range accuracy for a massive increase in magazine capacity. This void could be achieved by have standard issue, extended, and drum mags for many of the assault rifles. The LMG weapon class is perfect for the Engineer as they hang back and repair. They are more of a defensive role.

The Entire LMG weapon class should be overhauled so every LMG has a bipod. movement speed reduced. ADS speed increased. Recoil increased. Accuracy decreased. DMG per shot increased. When Bipod is deployed Recoil and accuracy are improved massively and the LMG can now rain hell down on the enemy with increase DMG per shot. Controllable and accurate. What's the downside? you are a static target. that's the tradeoff.

What about engineers? there all going to be slow and are expected to use a class of weapon that in a lot of ways has been nerfed into the ground but with a Bipod deployed is now buffed but it's risky. No. Engineers should also have a proficiency for SMG's that gives them two extra magazines with SMG's. LMG's will have a purpose of their own and are not just Assault rifles.

Second, I want to talk about Vault weapons. They are mostly pointless. Most vault weapons are the worst choice of weapon in that weapon class. There was a press release that stated that Dice was taking their time with vault weapons to do it right. this included progression and attachments in the announcement. what appears to have happened is a copy, paste and forget. That is more damning to the game as a new player will try to use the M16 and die over and over again and think the game sucks. and never come back.

All and every vault weapon feel like bullet velocity is lower than 2042 weapons. Bloom and spread are higher than 2042 weapons. Vault weapons lack the equal attachments as 2042 weapons.

The solution here is a complete rebalance of all vault weapons. This is of course their programed characteristics. From an attachment point of view, minimum we need extended mags. To do it right would be to think its 2042 and these guns are still in service. so, the attachments available are identical to the 2042 weapon attachments. We leave in place the portal attachments, but we add all the relevant attachments across the board for every vault weapon. At the same time, we lock those attachments behind a progression wall for each weapon. The player must use the gun to unlock those attachments. more reason to use the weapon. more progression. more of what the player wants.

Also, the K98 should be added in. I want to bring up vault weapon skins but that might be too much. This would obviously be a thing if ever became one. but the attachments, progression and rebalance is a must. this needs to happen in the next patch. even if it's just a rebalance in 3.3. and attachments and progression in 4.2. that's fine but we need to see progress. Also add the RPG.

Also,

Recon should have a proficiency for DMR's: Two additional magazines with DMR's.

Support should have a proficiency with Assault Rifles: One additional magazine with AR's.

Assault should have a proficiency with Utility weapons: Increased ammunition capacity.

all current proficiencies remain in place.

I very much hope the developers see this and see past these words to the core of what is generating them from the game.

  • @WarCrysisHello good morning, LMGs were this way in every BF game on frostbite. Big ARs with huge mags, but slower (enter name and value here)

In this game they act pretty much exactly the same as in previous games.

And you clearly did not play BF5 where MMGs gave you cancer by camping in every dark corner and laserd' you in a single burst

Vault weapons are quite good, especially now that extended mags have been nerfed into the ground.

Just before 3.2 dropped I got Tier 1 with M416. Then went to unlock A-91 and Tar-21. Tried them both and they're both extremely viable.

LMGs are also decent according to people who use them extensively.

AK smg is lacking though. Need more damage per shot to be viable.

I think the point of the LMG weapons should not be used as a run and gun weapon. Even in BF4, BF3 and even BF1 the LMG's should have been nerfed more when hip firing or shouldering. but buffed when bipoded. They should be more of a suppression, support and defensive weapon class. We already have SMG, Assault and even utility weapons for offensive weapon categories. Sniper is the only category that invokes a different play style heavily. AR and LMG are virtually the same thing in Battlefield games. It limits diversification amongst weapons and play styles. Limiting the scope of the game.

If you want to run and gun you should be using an AR with an extended magazine. That is the purpose of this weapon class in this use case. the weapon is light enough to be carried at fast movement speeds. has tolerable ADS and DPS times. The range from the shoulder is where it should be. The LMG is to heavy to move quickly with. It is very difficult to shoulder and fire down range accurately.

Battlefield has never been the best shooter via a majority opinion cause they aren't doing things 100% correct from the get-go. just cause former games treated LMG's completely out side the realm of reality doesn't mean that it makes the game better. If you want 200 rounds of high damage ammo there are trade offs. right now, LMG's can out gun a lot of the AR in the game sprinting and shooting from the shoulder. It makes no sense. If Sniper can be a different from full auto and semi auto weapons why cant LMG's evolve to be more realistic to the real world use case?

We literally have 3 categories of full auto weapons, two of which are virtually the same.
