I liked that role playing part the most about previous battlefields. I mean it's also very unlikely for a sniper to carry around rocket launchers in a real war
My beef with most previous BF game is that a recon was shoehorned to be a sniper.
In BF4 I could get a carbine, a spotting gadget, sensor balls and a beacon and be something I like better than a sniper. That was lost between BF4 and BF2042.
In BF2042 finally one can again be the spotting man with the recon drone and also carry c5 to blow something up and a sensor ball for that extra insurance.
@UP_Hawxxeye I remember in BFV there was the idea to add more Archtypes / Combat Roles like the planned Recon - Paratrooper.
The BF4 class system was very versatile, the weapon progression system was very bad though.
People always say, that classes are better, without mentioning which class system they refer to.
The BF4 class system is very good, but the class systems of BF2, BF3, BF1 and BFV are in no way better than specialists.
Sometimes I think people want to be able to tell people how to play their class, like "give me ammo", why don't you place your "spawn beacon".
I remember people got irritated when my BF4 recon used a carbine, motion sensors and T-UGS loadout, or a BF4 support with MP-APS and claymores.
I believe what most people miss, are the archetype/meta combination of the classes they believe to know.
With the specialists system, some of the former class abilities moved to become weapon attachments, like all under barrel attachments, unique to BF4 assault class.
Or the revive mechanics given to each squad member, and the team revive ability take from the BF4 assault class and put to a supporter named Falck.
In BF2042 the assault class characters have stripped away their former BF4 identity with something new. Maybe Sundance is like a BF4 assault grenadier?
I serviced as a tanker during the 1980th and my standard weapons were pistol, smg and lmg. To put smg and lmg in one class would be something new to the Battlefield series 😉

I hope add features we want and make Portal worth playing. I wish portal would go F2P. I want to play portal more but every match I join has like 10 people.

We wouldn't had the discussion, why the only medic is a woman, which was pretty much compensated by adding the team revive ability to the already overpowered Angel.
We wouldn't have red, blue and green lights on the front of the uniforms, because there is no other way to tell friend from foe.
We wouldn't have cringy catch phrases before and after the matches.
But I believe that EA/DICE put so much effort, time, and money into the design and development of the clowns, that it is unlikely, that they fix this issue at the base.
At the launch I would have suggested soldier models for All-out Warfare, specialist models for Hazard Zone only. But now, where the remaining player more or less ignore HZ, this might not be an option anymore.

@kregora yet they knew it would not be well received at all, it's no surprise that their lying trailer hidden them to show only proper military outfit. Hence the question if they knew it will not be received, why the hell didnt they put so much effort in them. Irrational and dumb decisions seems to be the briefing check list of 2042 ^^.
@Psubond it's not too far into the game to change this. As many core aspects of the game are utterly wrong, they admitted that many need rework, this would be simply one more to do before the relaunch in summer. Let's face it, this summer isn't an update, it's a relaunch.
Beside, people did not settled to this play style, there are way too many strong disapproval. Why we would need what the author said, because "this" in opposition of the specialists, is in the heart of BF. There are multiple demonstrations on the forum on how the new style completely diluted the notion of role and by consequences damage team & squad group effort. Notion that class system built over years.
Now it doesn't mean scrap everything 2024 is. there are good ideas. And i do like giving more weapon choice for everybody (for exemple a recon should be able to pick Assault rifle, or SMG). But some bare limits need to be set, especially on gadgets.
Now why they won't scrap the specialists, why they came with this idea at first ? Not because it's good gameplay idea. Because the entire idea of specialist was there to make more money. Aka, selling more dumb esthetic for them while surfing in the Battle Royal trend wave. And who know, even sell new specialists that you can only buy, not unlock. Quite a backfire for them, but that's what happen when you just copy some trend that doesn't fit your product without thinking.
PS : some youtuber explained that during the close BETA they were just a few specialist, and they more or less matched the class .... so ... the solution was right there. But noooo, let's make 10 characters because it's co🤭OOOoool.
- 4 years ago@UP_Hawxxeye BF3 was not received well. It generated so much hate from the community of the day who claimed they were promised a true successor to BF2 and what they got instead was a dumbed down game aimed at the COD audience.
- cso77774 years agoSeasoned Ace@Tank2042Man BF3 was a gigantic success compared to BF2 and was the game that made the BF-franchise big (BF3 sold 5-6 times as many copies as BF2).
BF3 got a lot of new players to the BF-franchise and the BF2-players are a minority compared to the players of BF3.
