Hello! I was wondering what the general reception to this game would have been if it wasn't marketed as a Battlefield game. What if it was more of a fun sandbox game that combined different EA game content, such as Battlefield, Battlefront, and Apex Legends? Or even if the content was basically the same, but the game was named something else, what would you have thought?

i don't think it started out as a battlefield game. my theory is that they were working on this at the same time as battlefield and whatever battlefield game they were making wasn't going to be ready so they slapped some battlefield modes into this, stamped the battlefield name on it and shipped it
Then it would just be another game that I would not play.
I have only been interested in 3 games, Battlefield, Red Orchestra and Cod until Cod4.
When a game moves too far away its roots, so do I.
I left cod when they skipped server browser and introduced MM. Sad to see the same happen for Battlefield.
@Haiku79if you take the Battlefield name out of it, you would still be left with an unfinished game void of any coherent design decisions.
now if we take DICE out of the equation and make this an indie studios first attempt at a video-game, then the bar woudl be a very different one for me at least

It is indeed very sad and a bit of a shock to see a BF title move so far away from everything that was Battlefield.
BF2042 is unrecognisable in so many areas, the whole soul has gone from a franchise I enjoyed so much for so many years, I just wonder if it will ever recover from this.

Honestly, if it wasn't BF it would still be a flawed, mediocre title at best. The only thing that would make this game remotely impressive is if it was built by a small team of inexperienced developers working on one of their first games.
I'm sure behind the scenes it's all a lot more impressive, but from the consumer side of things...not really at all.
Simple. I would not have bought it.
I bought 2042 because I made an assumption that it was going to function aalong the same lines as all the previous battlefield games. But better graphics and a more modern time period.
and by all accounts 2042 was marketed as such to support those assumptions.
If it had been marketed as it currently is, and I didn’t make the clearly absurd assumption that it would have basic features such as squad selection, server browser, platoon features and decent map rotation. I would not have bought it.
The only reason I didn’t cancel my preorder. (Which by the way I will never ever do again for any game) was because I have some bizarre level of hope that the game management will come to their senses and fix this stupidity.
